How long after abdominoplasty can I expect to be able to wear a bathing suit at the beach?

My DR. said 6 weeks.  I was 6 weeks out last Sat. no problem.

You really should keep your suture line out of the direct sun until the scars fade. I plan on getting a higher bathing suit bottom than usual... I also bought a small sunblock stick that is for faces, figure I can run that across my scar to make sure it is protected....

What Cynthia said. You must keep your scars out of the sunlight, including your belly button, or the scars will darken and look terrible. I think my surgeon said 3-6 months at least.

Immediately after a tummy tuck you will feel tight, swollen, and not be able to stand fully upright. Your tummy will hurt but the pain can be controlled with pain pills. In my practice we offer a pain pump to my patients that slowly infuses local anesthesia in the area of the surgery (under the skin) to help reduce the pain.

Your cosmetic surgeon will assess and discuss with you your condition and general overall health and then make recommendations to which method or procedure is best suited to individualized cases.  The number and length of incisions will depend on the type of procedure that is chosen.

Your surgeon or doctor will give you the ideal aftercare instructions so don't forget to consult and follow his assessment. Just a few of the basics will be: keeping the scars dry, have luke-warm bath, do not put pressure on it, can take about 12days to have the external stitched removed, and further details may depend on how the surgery is done as assessment are individually constructed to one's body.
