hey everyone I wrote something last time here saying I was gonna get my panni done December 6th but it got changed to January 25. I'm still excited and counting down the days so hopefully it will pass quickly, but I have a question about upgrading the procedure and if any of you Canadians have had any help with your insrurance? I've been back and forth with the insurance and the surgeons receptionist but now the insurance wants a full detailed estimate of everything the doctor is using. I guess all I'm asking is if the insurance works or am I just being annoying with the doctors receptionist? Lol by the way I have desjardins. Thank you all ?

Hello

Just stumbled on your message.

By insurance, do you mean OHIP?

I am not sure of the guidelines for a panni.

I only know that you have to be at goal weight and maintain the weight loss for at least a year.

By upgrading? Do you mean total abdominalplasty?

Wish OHIP would cover all of it. OHIP pays out $25000 for sex change operation and they won't pay for plastic surgery after gastric bypass surgery.

When are you having the surgery?

I have quite an overhang already. Can't imagine what it will be like after my RNY & all the weight loss.

Hey Sandra,  have you not had your surgery?  Your tag like says Jan 2016, do you mean 2017?  Where are you having yours done?

I don't know of any Canadian private insurance covering plastic surgery. OHIP covers panni only if you qualify. First you need to make sure your ps works with ohip. Not all of them do. As well make sure they work with wls patients. If you are ohip approved for panni you can self pay for tt

I have been approved for the panniculectomy and am paying my PS out if pocket to upgrade to abdomnioplasty. I have very good insurance through my work and none of the upgrade cost is covered. I will get a private room in the hospital from the insurance, but that's about it.
