Leg Pain after Abdominoplasty - OUCH!

Hello and Happy New Year to all the OH followers!

My issue is a painful one and I'm not sure if it's common.  Had an abdominoplasty on 12/16/16.  The next day after all the "good" drugs wore off, I was getting out of bed and got a pain that shot from my right hip down to my knee.  Since that point, that severe nerve pain has been present and a portion of my leg is numb.  Skin hurts to touch.  Was given a shot of a nerve blocker which didn't help and am now on Gabapentin which just makes me sleepy.  Leg still feels the same even this many weeks out (4).

Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this nerve irritation and what the results were, healing time, treatment, etc.

Thank you!

Hi there. I didn't experienced that problem with my abdominoplasty. I had mine done last October 2016 in Manila with a highly skilled surgeon, Dr Rino Lorenzo. My incision is still very visible. I delayed to do my scar therapy, the incision doesn't bother me so I just haven't made it a priority. Plus I am very pale which makes scars more visible. I have one regret and its that I wish I would of gotten side lipo. When my stomach got smaller I now notice the love handle area a lot more. Its the main area now that I don't like. Its a hard area to loose weight and tone and I wish while i was already getting stuff done I would of had that done too. I don't want it done badly enough to go back and get it done now. Over all, I am super happy with the results. I am glad I did it.

I had nerve pain but it was due to some scar tissue build up, he removed the excess scar tissue and it was all better.

Not sure if that is the same as what you are feeling/dealing with.

Leg pain, tingline, and hypersensitivity after TT can be from nerve injury and often goes away on it's own.  I have had it in 1 or 2 patients, and it has always vanished by around 6 weeks once the swelling goes down and the scar softens.  Treatment varies, and you may need to see a specialist.

Just a follow-up on my leg issue. 10 months later, I still have numbness in my leg and occasional nerve spasms. My surgeon told me he possibly grabbed a nerve in the sutures and over time it should get better. I have more feeling than before, but am definitely not 100% at almost a year.

Hello, you are not alone in your pain. I have been suffering from drop left foot, vein deficiency and polyneuropathy since waking up from my abdominalplasty March 21,2018
