Here you go. And the surgery was not that bad at all. I stayed 1 night in the hospital and did well on morphine. Got released and prescribed lortab which works wonderfully for me and I barely take it now (9 days post op.) Everything I've experienced since surgery can be described as annoying, frustrating, tiring, and at time uncomfortable but very rarely actually "painful."

I know exactly what you mean. I have had the trademark PCOS belly since age 13/puberty.  I lost 95 lbs and wore size 10 jeans but still nothing could get rid of that belly. Hello plastic surgery. Recovering from a tummy tuck and upper chest skin excision now and could NOT be happier with the results. When you get to where you want to be or where your body seems to comfortably stick, I think this is the best option. If you'd like to see some pictures of the effect of a TT on the PCOS belly I can post some.

Topic: RE: Severe PMS only every-other month?
I am a 26 year old female, diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries at age 16. For the past 10 years my periods have been regular (monthly) through the use of metformin, birth control pills, or both. Currently I am only on metformin and have not been on BC for about 2 years.  I've gone from 273 to 180 lbs now and yes, my periods seem to be more regular than ever, in case that helps.

I have nearly always had severe PMS symptoms, enough to classify as PMDD so I tried the birth control Yaz for that and also added in 10mg of prozac for the 2 weeks before my cycle. Neither really made a noticeable difference over months and years.

What has been happening for a while now is that every other month I will have severe symptoms, most notably extreme cramps and all over body pain and incredibly horrible mood swings. Like the type of mood swings you would expect from someone with bipolar disorder which I do not have. On the alternate months, I have only mild PMS symptoms like being slightly emotional and a little bit of cramping. I have a cycle every month but only every-other month is the severe symptoms.

What I'm wondering is WHY? Does this mean one of my ovaries is releasing way more hormones than the other so I only feel this way on the month it's working? Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have a suggestion for how to help it?

Topic: RE: Thanks Dr. Phil for that NOT informative bit on PCOS
    Of course they do!

A 60 year old man can't get a boner? They put years and millions into researching it. A 20 year old woman can't get pregnant, they tell her to lose weight.

    Life is so unfair.

Anyone else catch Dr. Phil this afternoon? I never would have except I'm home recovering and it's all that's on. Ironically, he is talking with a young woman who's obsessed with getting pregnant but has PCOS and hasn't been able to. They gave a 30 second explanation of what PCOS is that didn't even explain anything. Sigh... It also didn't mention IR at all but said some people with PCOS may be type 2 diabetic. Really? Come on! Give some decent facts (IR and Diabetes are not the same thing - not that some people with PCOS aren't diabetic but it's IR that's really associated with it.)

Topic: RE: PCOS Patient *****gained weight after RNY
Sorry I can't be of more help but I sooo know how you feel. I have been on metformin for PCOS for 10 years now and sometimes stop taking it cause the side affects are too bad (1000 mg a day makes me sick/500 mg a day does nothing)... and when I do I will gain 10 lbs within a few days. What's with that? So, I sympathize. And I wish someone would figure out WTF is up with PCOS.
Topic: RE: Metformin after surgery ?
I'm also on metformin for PCOS and it's never actually helped me lose weight (been on it 10 years) but I think it tends to help me not gain. If I go off it I gain 10 lbs immediately. I've gone off a couple of times cause the side affects are pretty bad sometimes. Hoping I could stay on it after surgery until I no longer need it. Hoping that if I lose a lot I won't need it then.
