I was reading through some posts on What to Expect website. There was a a woman who was using her home Doppler and found two heart beats and thought she was having twins. Her Doctor confirmed she's crazy (lol jk) that she is only have one... (even though her previous ultrasound only showed one).

So then she posts that she's heard of women becoming pregnant while pregnant. Like a woman ovulated weeks or months later while she was already pregnant. She would have 1 baby and then like 1-3 months later she'd have another....

Has anyone ever heard of this? Or is this lady a wack job? lol...... I may just be ignorant and never heard of it before lol.

I've heard of a woman having twins (no-relation) sleeping with one male and the next within a close time window and having twins. I know it sounds crazy but I swear I was watching Discovery Health late at night and saw this one (google it)

Ironically I have a neighbor this happened to several yrs ago!  She had twins and one was just under 8 lbs and the other was barely 5 lbs.  While in utero, they thought the smaller baby was getting less nutrition.  After delivery, they called in a specialist who said that both cords were of normal size with blood vessels of normal size and that the smaller baby received good nutrition, but was more or less just delivered early.  They decided the boy was full term at 40 wks and the smaller girl was delivered at around 35-36 wks.   The specialist said that it is possible to ovulate for 1-2 months after conception but that it is HIGHLY RARE.

So I have first hand knowledge of this. My dad is a faternal twin with my aunt.  So what happened was my grandma got pregnant with my dad then ovulated almost 3 months later and got pregnant with my aunt. My aunt was very premature while my dad was full term.

Now this was back in the 1950's so they didnt know that she was even having twins until they came out...

What you were saying about having the second baby a couple months later is not possible. They both come out at the same time... regardless of gestation.

Actually it is possible to have a second baby a couple months later.  My sister had my nephew in October 08 and she had my neice January 09.  The doctor performed a C section on her son and closed her back up until my neice was full term, then they performed another C section in January to take her out.  Both or full term and healthy.

I had a friend who had this happen to her in 1988.  She had both of her babies very premature, at 28 weeks I believe.  But one was quite a bit smaller than the other one, and had a lot more complications than the other one.  After extensive testing, they found that twin B was probably 3-4 weeks behind in gestation.  Now mind you, we were both 17 years old at the time, so understanding it at that time was very difficult for both of us, but now, being more knowledgable and mature, it does make sense, and I believe it can happen.

I agree with the PP though in that you cannot deliver at separate times..both babies are born at the same time, regardless of gestational age.

I had never heard of getting pregnant while pregnant...but I vaguely recall seeing something years ago about twins born a month or so apart.  I think it said that the mom went into premature labor and one baby was born premature...but the drs were able to stop the labor and thus the delivery of the 2nd baby.  I don't think it said that they were a result of getting pregnant while pregnant...just premature labor that they were able to stop the labor for the 2nd baby.

Holy crap, I can't believe the responses that you are getting about this Kyle.  Weird things do happen with pregnancies - anything really is possible.  Like opposite sex identical twins - there is usually something "off", but still, it is true.  I too heard of a the case where a short window of fertility and several sex partners during that window produced fraternal twins with different fathers.

I sure like to be pregnant one day - with twins even  . . .  maybe triplets, But I wish not to get pregnat while pregnant.  I mean, can't that extend the nine months to 15  .

If my memory serves me correctly , I believe I saw an episode of Montel Williams where this woman had twins...one was black and one was white!!!  I can't remember exactly how it happened, but I believe it was a case of two different daddies.  I wish I could find it on the internet, but have been unsuccessful.

There is a way it can happen. My best friend Michelle has a split uterus, she's got two pretty much. She can get pregnant in BOTH! So she has to be really careful when she does get pregnant again for it to not happen otherwise it can put both babies at risk.

24 years ago a woman I went to school with concieved twins by 2 different men at least 2 weeks apart. I remember there was a pretty big size difference. She didn't find out that they had different fathers for several years and it was pretty shocking back then. I had never heard of such a thing.

Superfetation (also spelt superfoetation, based on a hypercorrection — see fetus) is the formation of a fetus while another fetus is already present in the uterus. When there are two separate instances of fertilisation during the same cycle, rather than different cycles, it is known as superfecundation.

Superfetation is claimed to be common in some species of animals, but is extremely rare in humans. It can occur only where there are two uteri, or where the menstrual cycle continues through pregnancy.

Reports of superfetation occurring long after the first impregnation have often been treated with suspicion and some have been clearly discredited. Other explanations have been given (and demonstrated) for different levels of development between twins. Artificially induced superfetation has, however, been demonstrated although only up to a short period after insemination.

once you go into labor though you have to have both babies if this actually happens which is super rare and there have only been 2 actual known cases an happend in the UK. both babies would be delivered at the same time due to the body producing the hormone that causes labor and the water being broken you cant have a baby later, there are allot of people that beleive that you cant get pregnant while breast feeding and probably ended up pregnant right after the birth of the other child is a more rational explanation for this.

My aunts mother has two uterus's, so technically she could have gotten pregnant while she was already pregnant. Like a cat!
