Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else.
I just had surgery on the 16th. :)

Feeling a lot better this morning, it went easier than I thought it would. :)

I found the following things helpful to have on hand:

A pillow for the car ride home, to protect your incisions.
Gas X (for the gas they pump into you, got rid of mine fast).
Clear liquids (of course).
A pillow to prop you up in bed.

 Thank you. :)
I am excited...and still nervous.

I hope I'll be able to eat everything I eat now, just a lot less of it.

Especially sushi!

Thank you all so much for the advice.

Funny thing, I am actually 5'4, and my last weight was 236....with clothes on.  And maybe I forgot to emtpy my pockets.

Regardless, surgery for sure on the 16th.  I am both excited and nervous!

Topic: RE: Checking In
I am here and finally have a surgical date, the 16th.

I am both excited and scared.

Any advice and/or sites to read up on things would be appreciated!

Topic: RE: UMR insurance
 Yay!  I was approved.

Surgery is either the 13th or the 20th, I was offered both dates and will know soon.

WHEW!  I am excited.

Thank you. :) I spoke to one of the staff and they want me to do a sleep study ASAP.

I DO wake up a lot, and thought it was allergies....maybe it's sleep apnea.

Does anyone know for sure what the co-morbidities HAVE to be for this insurance to cover?

I have had high blood pressure in the past, as well as irregular periods, asthma and joint pain.

My insurance must be looking at my current weight vs. previous weights and issues.

Very annoying!

 Thank you. :)

I imagine they did not look at my presurical weights.

I also assume that insurance wants to make this as difficult as possible, so they don't have to pay.

Hiya,

I have been waiting patiently to hear back from my insurance company regarding the Realize Band...and I just did today.  I was denied.
The reason is that my BMI is under 40 and I don't have co-morbidities.  That's NOW...not before.  I have been working hard to get down to this weight and I have been much higher (285 at 5'5).

I am so frustrated.

Does anyone have any advice?

I am crushed.

 Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for the detailed reply, it was honestly what I was looking for.

I have been reading the forums and they are admittedly scaring me a bit.

I have been working on weight loss for years, I have managed to lose 60 on my own and am a regular exerciser, but I tend to yo yo diet/lose and regain.
This time I am ready to lose it all for good.

I was considering a sleeve but the doctor I am working with thinks I would be happier with the realize band.

Thanks again,

HC

 April!  How did it go??
What are your thoughts?
Topic: RE: Realize Band.
Hello!  I am new to the forums and hopefully having my surgery soon, pending insurance.

Any tips for me?

I am excited and nervous at once. :)

How long should I expect for recovery?
How long did you have to wait to start exercising again?
Is there any food you absolutely cannot tolerate anymore?

Thanks in advance!
