Revision on 08/27/15
I've got a lapband that probably needs to be removed completely, and I want to convert to a sleeve.  My BMI is about 33 right now.  What is the likelihood that I can get insurance to pay for a revision to the sleeve?  I've got Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield, standard option.  I know that I can most likely get them to pay for the band removal.

I'd prefer to stay in the U.S. for surgery, but if I can't get the sleeve revision approved, I'd rather go to Mexico than pay U.S. cash-pay prices.

There is only one way to find out and that is to contact your insurance company and ask them. It all depends on whether there are any exclusions for WLS and what they may require for a revision. Only they can tell you that for sure.
