Here we go. I had the VBG. It is now considered bad surgery as most failed. The VBG does only one part of the RNY. It staples a line diagonally across the stomach forming a sm pouch. A small plastic ring is put in at the top of the stomach. That is it. Problem is the pouch stretches and the suture line degrades. Eventually most people regain all the wt. RNY takes down the VBG, separates the pouch made completely from the stomach, and diverts the first several feet of intestine. It is both restrictive and malabsorbtive
