Topic: RE: CANNOT FIND A BOB DOCTOR IN MY AREA

I have a BOB.  A BOB is a totally different procedure that a regular old band.  Check out Marina Kurian in NYC.  You could fly there for the surgery and get your fills in Cali.

Topic: RE: BOBs- what type and size band did you get?

I agree with Hislady - band brand is the opinion of the surgeon, I have a lap band.  As for size however, it depends on the amount of scar tissue you have. I have a 14cc band.  I have 9cc in my band and Ill be 2 yrs out for my BOB in June. I hae .1cc last month.  It was my first fill in like 6 mos.  Everyone is different for fill volume. All I will say is that its an experiment.  You need to go at it slowly, a little at a time.

Topic: RE: Anyone do band over existing RNY?

Im a BOB.....red my profile and hit me up with any questions. It has worked for me. I am at 175, had regained from 305 to 175 back to 250. I am 2 years out with the BOB in June and 13 yrs out with the Gastric Bypass in August.

Its tough, I ain't gonna lie - but, its a a godsend.  I have restriction which i NEVER had with the RNY.

Topic: RE: having RNY revision due to dilation... stories please!!

Amber, I remember you from "back in the day".  I had a revision too but to a band-over-byapass.  Keep in touch if you need any support.

Topic: RE: From RNY to BOB (Band Over Bypass) - Anyone?

Hi Tia. I am the fore mentioned Heather Cross.  Feel free to check out my profile.  I had a BOB in June of 2011. I am almost 2 yrs out. I am forever grateful to my band.  I know it may not be forever, but, it does its trick now.  It has given me restriction, which I never had with the RNY as well as a lack of appetite.  I also believe I am successful bc I am a person who has embraccced exercise and walks a lot.  I sometimes walk 5-6 miles a day to work.  Many of the 'friends' listed on my profile have also had BOBs.  I believe I am also successful based on my surgeon who embraces the BOB and knows it takes a lot of follow-up care and that I am truely a different patient. I am a rare combination bc I still dump a bit from the RNY and I believe I still have some malabsorption (evidenced by the toliet).  Check out my profile, let me know if you have any questions.

Also, one last thing. The band is a DIET, anyone can lose on the RNY, you just exist and you lose.  The Band, however, is work, its a diet, but, it does restrict your intake and curbs your appetite and for that I am thankful. Now, if I can never have food come out of my nose when I eat too much again - it will be the best thing ever.

Topic: RE: Inquiring about my optons - 11 years post RNY, weight regain

Its called a BOB - band over bypass. I had my RNY in 2002. I went from 305 to 175. I regainned - starting in 2007 - all the way back up to 250.  In June of 2011, I had a Band installed (BOB) and I am now at 175.  I love my band.  It gives me restriction and I am not hungry. I am almost 2 yrs post op band and 11 yrs post-op RNY.  Read my profile, let me know if you have any questions.

Topic: RE: (Re)Intro of Sorts

Lynn - HUGE phillies fan (off topic). I am in NYC, had RNY in 2002, had a revision to a Band-over-bypass (BOB) June 2011, read my profile, talks about all the going back and forth I did within and why I revised.  Good Luck.

Topic: RE: RNY to lap band

Hey. I've had a BOB - RNY to Band.  I had it done in June of 2011.  Please feel free to read my profile, I did a fairly good job of detailing everything and the experience. I am very happy with it, Im down like 80lbs, lost all the the regain and then some. I still could be losing but my exercise hasn't been what it was in the fall/summer bc of the cold.  I want to lose another 20lbs this Spring/Summer.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Topic: RE: 2 weeks all liquid diet before revision

Yes.  I had to do this before my revision (RNY to Band) and its really no biggie. It was a piece of cake actually after like 2nd day.  I was allowed shakes, soups (broth) and veggies.  Its to shrink your organs and defat your liver. It makes surgery easier.  Plus, I lost 14lbs.

Topic: RE: why is everything so hard????

I disagree  - I am 10 yrs out RNY and still have some malabsorption

Topic: RE: Revision

Renee, I thought about a ROSE procedure but their are no long term results and I know people who did it who lost nothing. Its not REAL WLS. Please consider an RNY-RNY, RNY to Lap Band (BOB) or RNY to DS.  These will give yout he results you need, not some 'flavor of the month' that you will revise again in 6 mos to a year.

Topic: RE: looking into revision

Hi Michelle. I've had a Band over Bypass (BOB) in June of 2011. I had my RNY in 2002 went from 305 to 175. I regained back to 250 from years 2008 - 2011.  I am now at 170. I love my Band but its a totally different animal then the RNY.  Its tough. The Gastric Bypass was a PIECE OF CAKE! My suggestion, finjd a new surgeon, get the notes from your old surgeon, ask for a ct scan of your abdomen as well as a endoscopy. This will show if you have a stretched stoma and/or an enlarged pouch, From there, discuss options. Also, check your insurance carrier to see what their rules are on revisions as well as WLS. Some insurances see the BOB as a 'new surgery' some see it as a revision.  But, get the facts first and remember, weight loss with the band IS REALLY slow. Its a diet.

Topic: RE: revision;gastric bypass to lap band

Rock, it does work for many of us.  Just as lapbands fail, so do RNYs.  So do all WLS actually. I realize my band may fail me in the future, but, currently it is now, and for that I am grateful, As long as I am alive, I will be proactive in my healthcare and my weightloss.

Topic: RE: revision;gastric bypass to lap band

I've had the Band over Bypass (BOB).  I had it done in June 2011. I had the RNY in 2002. It has worked well for me and many others I've known who have done the same. Please read my profile, I've blogged a bit about the experience and most of my "friends" are BOBsters as well.

Heather

Oh, and I'm back at goal.

Topic: RE: Do I qualify for a revision?

Get the testing done. Yes, everyone regains, but it you are regaining from a failed procedure, it wouldn't matter what your BMI is.

Topic: RE: Do I qualify for a revision?

The first thing you need to do is go see your surgeon. You need to talk about why this is happening or has happened.  Ask for a CT Scan of your abdomen and also an endoscopy.  It will tell you if your pouch has stretched or if you have an enlarged stoma.  You cannot do anything or even consider anything before you know the root cause.

Good Luck.

Topic: RE: Revision on 12/19- On 2 week liquid diet- need adivce

Hey Bobster.  Good Luck.  Hit me up if you need anything.  Good luck next week. I am 18 mos post-BOB and doing great.

Topic: RE: Revision on 12/19- On 2 week liquid diet- need adivce

Hi I am a BOBster as well. I had to do 2 weeks of liquids too.  It wasn't so bad after day 3.  I drank atkins shakes, slim fast and mixed carnation instant breakfast with real milk. I also ate a TON of proegresso soup (WW version) with veggies and also tomato soup with fiber.  Yes, I cheated a bit, but, it helped. I was allowed protein shakes, all veggies, soup, broth and liquids but no alchol.  I also would go to chipolte and eat the lettuce, chopped tomatoes, corn and salsa. I am not sure how 'strict' your doctor is but I was allowed more than shakes. I did shakes days 1-5, days 6-10 I ate the other stuff and 11-14 shaked again.  its to shrink your organs and defat your liver. It made my recovery easy. I walked home from the hopsital and went out that night and to work the next day.

Email if you need anything. There are many Bobs on here, but, not always out and about bc of the bandbashers.  Most people on my profile as 'friends" are BOBs.  I am at goal, 170. I am happy and I love my band.  But, be forewarned, its 10000000X different that the RNY. Its hard. Its rough and its like shoping at TJ Maxx, sometimes you find what you want, other times failure.

Good Luck.

Topic: RE: ROSE PROCEDURE HELP

I suggest you seriously re-think your decision.  i am sorry to burst your ballon, so to speak, but, its a FACT that the rose doens't work. I have read nothing positive about the procedure nor have I met or spoke with anyone who lost anything after the initial procedure.  Based on the fact that your stoma has enlarged, you should investigate a revision to your RNY to another RNY or something else.  Don't do a ROSE just to have a 3rd surgery in 6 to 18 mos.

I had an RNY in 2002, I went from 3015 to 175 and back up to 250. I had a BOB last June (2012) and I am down at 170. I love my band. Now, I won't tell you a BOB will work for you bc you have an enlarged stoma and I have a fully intact stoma and an enlarged pouch. But, what I do know is the ROSE won't work and you will be heavier than you are now and miserable and exploring a 3rd revision.  Investigate the BOB, a revised RNY, a sleeve or the DS.  Don't pick something that has little or no success rate and isn't even "real WLS".  Plus, now that most insurance companies have instituted a "1 WLS per lifetime" don't waste your revision on the ROSE.

Topic: RE: Apollo Overstitch Revision

Marie, I used Dr, Leitman too, August 2002.  While I love Dr. Leitman with all my heart, he had a trenchancy to make the pouches very large - hence the regain.  He is at Beth Isreal now, head of surgery.  When he first moved, he was still doing surgery but since he never learned "lap" he was kind of left out.  I emailed him initially and I ended up seeing Roslin at Lenox and Kurian at NYU.  Roslin wanted me to do a ful on revision of my RNY but it was major surgery and the complication rate was very high.  He advised against DS bc of my open RNY plus I didn't have a lot of weight to lose. I then went to see Kurian over at NYU, she suggested both the RNY revision and the BOB. I wanted the BOB as I has heard of many success stories plus, my stoma was still intact and I had a very large pouch, it seemed right for me and I was a volume eater.  I had the BOB done June 2012, went from 250 to 170 - I love it. I have restriction, I cannot eat a lot and it gives me back control.

I wish you the best and I hope it works for you.  I just know if you don't have restriction that you are seeking you will be continuously fighting a losing batte - I know I was.

Topic: RE: Apollo Overstitch Revision

Marie, I have to agree with others, this 'overstitch' procedure is a flavor of the month and I've never heard anything positive. When you were considering your revision, what was the reason for your weight gain?  Did your pouch stretch?  Did you have an enlarged stoma?  What? I know you said you had surgery originally in NYC (I did both of my original and revision here in NYC), di did you email him or her for his/her opinion?

I had an RNY in 2002, I lost 130lbs - going from 305 to 175. I regained to 250 and in June of 2011, I had a Band over Bypass (BOB). I've lost 70lbs, have more restriction than I ever did with the RNY and very happy with my procedure.

You need to have a chat with your surgeon.  I'd ask why you aren't feeling restriction - if you are supposed to.

Good Luck - Heather

Topic: RE: Rny -> Lap Band. Feeling like a hot air balloon at night.

Hey, I have a BOB too and my first surgery, the RNY, was Open so the whole "air" and "gas" was new to me. I'd say if it continues you should speak to your doctor bc I recall feeling that way for the 1st week, but, not much after that?  I also had a hernia repair too and my gassy/air discomfort only lasted a week.  Why not email your doctor and ask his/her advice.

Good Luck, use BOBsters need to stick together.

Topic: RE: Surgery Center vs. hospital??????

I'd NEVER have surgery, any kind of major surgery in a "surgical center".  I am not even sure why your health insurance would even approve tha.
