Yep here's a geek girl post for ya...  (PREOPS and NEWLY POST OPS PAY ATTENTION)

I keep telling myself I'm losing SLOWLY...  I'm not.
I keep telling myself I'm a failure  I'm NOT
I keep thinking that I'm doing something wrong.. I'm NOT.

NOW Granted I'm technically a light weight...   my EW according to the doctor was 143 and I'm at 62% EWL already.  THIS IS GOOD...  I chart every day.  I chart monthly on the calendar month I chart monthly on the surgical month...  I took all this info and created a weekly chart... it was the first time I felt like I was doing something RIGHT.....

I had ONE week where I had a small gain  (.8  so less than a pound)  and some weeks I lose a lot more than that or a lot less.....   but I AVERAGE  2.3 pounds lost PER WEEK.  this is HUGE folks...   I've never lost that CONSISTENTLY over a long period of time...

I keep thinking I'm stalling... but there is LOSS of some amount EVERY week even if it's .2 pounds...

Sometimes I think that my expectations of what I would lose were unrealistic.   I think we really have to look at percentages not actual pounds.    62% of my EWL is huge... HUGE...    It's like 88 pounds...  my ticker is from the day of surgery on my scale.  not my preop weight on their scale... so my ticker does NOT match the doctor's expectations...

here's the chart...    and take heed...  slow and steady wins this race...

Thanks for posting! Your chart is encouraging. The big picture is nice to see while I sit here at a week 3 stall. I should be weighing in tenths of pounds..maybe I've lost a tiny bit. I'd be less frustrated. You've done great!

Thank you! This is about what I'm expecting (we started out at a similar weight). Good to see it laid out week by week and how those small steps add up! It's not like I have a choice whether to be a tortoise or not - that's just the way it is!  Jenny T

exactly.... just follow the rules and it will happen...

I posted this because it's hard to see past this morning's weigh in when it's not a huge loss....

we just have to keep plodding along...

This is a great post - I hope it gets a lot of views - people can't expect to see 5lbs gone EVERY week, or even ANY week in some cases.  It took me years to gain an extra 125 lbs, I had no business expecting it to all come off in 6 months.

Good for you for sharing - you are doing a great job!!!

Congrats!

Thank you for sharing your chart. My surgery is set for the 12th of April, and it helps to see a realistic view of what one can hope to lose. I know we all want it to come off NOW... but as someone said, it took a LONG time to gain it all (sometimes gain it more than once) so it's to be expected that it take some time to take it off... but this time, if we follow the rules, we have a much, much better chance of keeping it off.

BTW - your smile is so beautiful... I'm sure that you are told that a lot, but  I wanted to mention it and tell you that when I see your smile I can't help but smile too. Thank you. :)

Thank you for this post, Nessa!  I am constantly noticing how others about my same weight and surgery date, or later than mine have lost 10, 20 or more pounds than me by now, and can feel like I am failing at this.  You are so right.  Slow and Steady.

I'm also six months out and considered a lightweight. My body is taking it slow and steady too. (my weekly weigh ins are on my profile)

Awesome post Nessa! What you have is the norm- for every freak like me that loses ridiculously fast (which is NOT healthy and NOT the best way to do this, I might add) there are 10 others that lose slow and steady and that’s the way it should be. I can guarantee you won’t have the skin problems like I do, the inability to eat like I do, and I’m pretty sure you’re happier than I am with food options and choices at this point post-op. I think I had lost about 140? (going off of memory here) lb in 8 mos and that was WAYYY too fast. Slower IS better, slow and steady losses.

Hi LoveLike Winter.... we have the same surgery date!

Nessa, I very much appreciate this post!  I, too, have had my moments during this journey where I felt like I was a "slow loser" because I compared myself to some "speedy" losers such as a coworker of mine who got to goal in a little over six months.  We have to stop comparing ourselves to others and just look at our own progress.  If we are consistently losing, even with a few stalls or temporary gains, we're still making progress!  How many times have we heard it before.... it's better to lose slowly.  I'm sure it's better for our bodies.  But somewhere along the line, we thought RNY was going to mean FAST weight loss... and indeed in the beginning it IS fast.  But at some point we have to start feeding our bodies a more healthful amount of food and properly nourish our bodies, so the weight loss slows down.  But, when you really think about it, losing 2 pounds a week is AWESOME!  It's more than most of us were able to lose before RNY.  And now we know we have a tool, if used properly, that will enable us to keep the weight off.

It all sounds good, doesn't it?

Thanks from me for this, too!

I've had a much slower weight loss than I anticipated, especially the past couple of months.  But then I stop and remember the years and years where I struggled and struggled and if anything, gained more weight.  The fact that I've lost over 50 pounds without being hungry or really even working out much (exercise: my biggest challenge) is really very miraculous.

There is also a big difference between my surgeon's goal (60% of excess weight) and mine (more than that, but we'll see how it looks when I get there).  If you look at the surgeon's goal, I don't have far to go at all, another 15 lbs, maybe.

Anyway, it really helps to know that not everyone loses 100 pounds in six months, that the "window of opportunity" doesn't close so very quickly. and that you can lose slower and still be successful in the long term.
