catching a cold...sore throat

coming down with sore throat and a cold.....what meds can i take?  i know lots of meds have cornsyrup that i've heard will cause dumping.

nyquil has alcohol...which is also a no no......

so.....any ideas as to what i can take?

Steamy showers for stuffy nose and chest, and gargle warm salty water for sore throat.

get a netti pot (google it). I have not had surgery yet but I do use one. Everytime I start to feel a cold coming on and it works! My mother has had RNY and she uses hers all the time too. She also has allergies and it helps with that as well. They also sell vitamins and minerals that you can add to the water for certain symptoms if you do a little internet research :-)

There are also diabetic meds out there that may be wls friendly too.

Tylenol products are okay - I have not used the liquid, but you can take children's meltaways. 8 meltaways = 2 extra strength adult Tylenol.

If you get congestion, Mucinex is also allowed.

Day Quil in the tablet form works well for us too (not the gelcaps).

And for a sore throat, gargle with warm sal****er.

I've had a sore throat for the last couple of days and I am also 4 weeks out. Doc told me to gargle salty warm water 4xs a day, drinks lots of fluids (chicken broth=antihistimine), and to take tylenol for pain or fever. Probably a little cold will go away on its own.

I dont like the combonation drug remedies because we cant take so many things. Be careful. When in doubt, call your doc.

I do dump, but I've taken Nyquil when I get in bed and I'm sleeping so I don't feel the alcohol effects and wake up fine.
