Weight Loss Surgery Directory

haven't had surgery yet.....

Hello,  Dec 11 I went to the hospital for an umbilical hernia, I had surgery to remove the cantoloupe sized culprit.  I was also diagnosed with CKD (chronic kidney disease).  I have yet to be put on dialysis but my kidney dr is referring me to a weight loss surgeon so I can be put on the kidney transplant list.  I am really scared and nervous.  I've heard alot of horror stories.  I am trying to look at the positive in this.  I have a rough road ahead of me.
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis.
WLS is a major change and a serious decision, but it can also be a life saver.  Keep in mind "everybody knows somebody whose neighbor knew somebody that died after WLS"...... You'll see more posts here in general about issues because people don't post "HELP I am doing way too great!!".

Talk to your surgeon, your kidney doctor, your primary.... get the scoop on all of the surgeries. Do your own research and find what is best for you.

 Best wishes !
WLS is major surgery and carries a whole bunch of challenges and risks. But you already know that. You want to hear the positive side.

There really isn't much of a positive side, to be honest, except for getting rid of all the dangers that obesity carries. So if you want to see the positive side of WLS, the best thing (in my opinion) is to look at the negatives of staying heavy, of which there are many. Your doctors can probably tell you more about them than I can -- and I'm betting they already have.

Good luck!
