I went in for bloodwork today, and my phlebotomist must have been Sweeny Todd in another life. Ouch. So I'm in the mood for some giggles.

One of the things that blows me away is how much peoples' faces change with drastic weight loss. It's like our faces melt away to reveal something completely different underneath. It's amazing.

I would imagine if someone hadn't seen you in a long time, they might not even recognize you post op. Has anyone had that experience? Any fun stories to share?

Someone literally just posted on a pic of me and my husband "tell me the secrets on how to look so thin".  Well......  It is mainly just a shot of shoulders and up

i did! just recently actually. about a month ago my mom's boss got a promotion and i happened to be in town when they had her goodbye dinner so i joined in the festivities. most of the people my mom works with are my age (give or take a few years) and i've always gone to their parties and stuff so they all know me pretty well. the one girl came over and said hi how are you, and it seemed normal. she then went over to my mom and whispered in her ear (not so quietly haha) "this is a weird question, but is that your daughter?" at which point one of the other women was like omg i didn't even know it was you!

LOL!  That's hilarious. It always amuses me when people don't feel like they can just come out and ask. :D

Yes,  just last week.  I spoke to a man who had season tickets behind us at high school football stadium.  We have known them for years.  One of his employees is a very close friend of my family.  My aunt and uncle are her like her adopted parents.  I was speaking to him and it became obvious he did not know who I was.  I told him then he did a very poor job of covering the fact that he had no clue until I told him.  Later I figured out it was because of my weight loss.

Such a timely post--tonight at dinner at a local restaurant a girl walks up to me that I very much recognize, but can't place from where it is I know her. She says, "Holy crap--I didn't even recognize you--you look phenomenal!" I thank her and make small tal****il she reveals that she used to work at Gold's gym where I go and she tells me she had left many months back and was now working at this restaurant. Let me tell you, when the gym girl tells you she doesn't recognize you, that is some good stuff!

I do marvel at how some folks change and literally look like different people. Some people hold onto the core of their appearance.  I think I fall somewhere in between, but then again I've looked at this face for 41 years, so maybe I'm jaded!

Thanks for the fun post!

It is so weird when people don't recognise you. I think it's a little humorous too.

I was taking a class in September once a week and I was always talking to two girls in there. I happened to run into them around Christmas and the one girl just waved and came over to talk. After about 3 min or so, the other girl held out her hand and introduced herself. I just laughed and said, "Nice to meet you. It's me, Carla." She looked SHOCKED! We all got a good chuckle out of that. I guess I didn't realize that I had changed so much in such a short time. Too funny!

Ummmm...not really not recognizing me but...

There is this tiny hole-in-the wall sushi place I frequented pre-op (the kind of place where the owner remembers you and already knows what you want to order). Anyway a few months ago I went back in there for the first time post-op (I'd had sushi, just not there) and the owner was like "Oh my gosh...what happened to you????"

That made me smile. At four years out those moments are few and far between.

My Gyno and his nurse didn't recognize me last year when I came in for my yearly exam. Now people that know me go oh my gosh you are tiny!

I teach at a high school. I used to teach at the middle school that feeds into my current school. One day I was doing hall duty and chatting with my fellow teachers. I laughed about something (I have a very distinctive laugh). A kid walking by stopped and stared at me. He said, "Who are you?" I told him my name and he got the biggest grin. He said he did not recognize me but knew it was my laugh.

2 teachers on my hall teach seniors. I was big when I had them in middle school. Both teachers said their seniors were talking about me and my weight loss this week. So funny!!

It happens a lot at work for me. I work in a bank. I will see employees that work at other braches that I know, and they will ask,
" can I help you?" And I'll give them a minute and sometimes they can figure out who I am and other times someone will have to tell them, " that's Sally!".

Customers are confused, too. Especially if I have my hair up. I had a customer give me her id and said, "here's my id since you have never waited on me before", and I have to tell them I actually know who you are, you just don't recognize ME!

The most interesting is when you pass a mirror and don't recognise yourself!

There was a meeting at my son's school recently and when I raised my hand to ask a question, the woman that was leading the meeting (who has always called me Shannon, even though I've reminded her many times over the years that my name is Sharon) asked, looking at me straight in the face...."and you are"? She had no clue who I was, so I replied,..."it's Sharon, not Shannon". lol, couldn't resist.
