OK, I WENT TO MY FIRST PRE OP APPT TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT I CAN HAVE ONE MEAL A DAY STARTING ON FEBRUARY 6TH AND THEN I AM ALSO SUPPOSED TO DRINK 3-4 SHAKES A DAY BUT I WAS WONDERING IF I HAVE TO DRINK THE WHOLE CAN OF THE SHAKES OR IF I CAN SPLIT THEM UP. I DO HAVE POWDER TOO AND MY HUSBAND IS STRESSED BECAUSE HE DOESN'T THINK WE HAVE ENOUGH AND WE LIVE ON A SET INCOME. SO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK, THANKS A BUNCH.

You have to drink what you doctor tells you to drink.  You will have requirements post op that you can't play with or you will get sick.  You have to be able to afford your protein and your vitamins.  You can't do it on a limited income if you shop wisely.

It doesn't matter how you drink them - if you want to drink a whole shake three times a day, that's fine.  If you prefer to drink half a shake six times a day, that's fine too.  But you need to drink three whole shakes.

I'm on a limited income too and protein and vitamins and stuff can be expensive, especially in the beginning.  Please make sure you have saved up enough money for this stuff, as it is extremely important.  Do the math to see if you have enough protein powder.

THANKS KELLY. MY HUSBAND ALSO TALKED TO HIS MOM AND HIS MOM SAID THAT WE/HER, MY HUSBAND AND I WILL FIGURE IT OUT. I THINK WHAT SHE IS TRYING TO SAY IS THAT SHE WILL HELP PAY FOR THE POWDERS AS WELL AS THE SHAKES TOO. I THANK GOD FOR HER BECAUSE SHE HAS HELPED US IN SO MANY WAYS TO BEGIN WITH ALREADY AND SHE IS A VERY SUPPORTIVE MOTHER IN LAW.

Yes I'm finding this very expensive.  I am stocking up on items because I know there will be 'pinch' times and after spending time here I know how important it is with keeping up with vitamins and getting enough protein.

One thing for you and your partner to consider is that you will not be eating, so make sure to cut the amount of groceries down and also the size of food that gets cooked.  You will save money from that while you are on the liquid Portion of your diet.

Definitely shop around and if you can get help that is a bonus too :)

i have 36 slim fast shakes, 1 muscle milk powder/tub,8 EAS shakes, 1 tub of Super Advanced Whey Protein. Is that enough for the month? We spent 30.00 on the slim fast shakes because they were at Big Lots on sale and came in packs of 12. 10.00 on the EAS shakes, 15.00 on the tub of whey protein, and 24.00 on the tub of Muscle Milk powder from GNC It was on clearance for 20.00. We started purchasing the protein in November.

Buying in advance on clearance is a great idea, but don't forget to look at the expiration dates!

Yea, I did that. They don't expire until April so I'm good there.

Check with your doctor as well.  The hospital I'm working with will give you the shakes.  Sometimes they even offer samples.

Be careful as the Slim Fast ones don't have a good mix of protein/calories etc.

Remember that you won't be eating regular food so the grocery bill will be less.

They can get expensive especially when having them 3 times a day.

My favorites - Jay Robb, Body by Vi & Pure Protein - Chocolate Ready to Drink 35 gram cans.
