Well Ive been having a problem with my knee the last 6 months and now that I'm exercising on a daily basis it is really flaring up. I did go see the Ortho doc today to find out that I have arthritis really bad between my 2 bones and in back of my knee cap along with calcium deposits.
The doctor recommended some Quad exercises to help strengthen my quads so my leg wont give out anymore. He also said Glucosamine Sulfate is also a good thing to get started on along with a gel he gave me to rub around the knee 3-4 times a day.  Is it ok for me to take this? OR is this something I should ask the surgeon about. On Monday ill be 7 weeks out and haven't been on the bike for 3 days due to my knee, but I have been working my upper body out, but just not getting the same results which are starting to affect me.  Anyone else have this problem or any other options??

Be sure to check with your doctor first!  However for me Glucosamine Sulfate w/ Condroitin and MSM has been as close to a MIRACLE drug as I can get. At first I started out with the pills from GNC (Woman's Ultra Mega Joint), but post op, I realized that the pills were too big, and probably wouldnt be getting absorbed. Glucosamine is ONLY as good as the formula and the quality of the product. I bought some liquid formula post op that did not work at all.  Then I found a liquid that's peddled through GNC called "Wellnesse", and that does the trick for me. You can order Wellnesse online at Amazon, or you can see if your local GNC has it. It can take a few weeks before you notice relief but you WILL notice relief if you take it as recommended. I believe the dosage is 2,000 mg of Glucosamine, 1500 of Condrointin, and another amount of MSM (i dont remember).  Best wishes!

Getting the right dosage is so important, or else it will be useless. Many people never get the right dosage, and they think the formula is ineffective and stop using it. Shoot for the high dosages. Just a caution, some people seem to think that this can flare up gout so beware.

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I have been taking liquid Glucosamine for years now. I have tried a few brands and also the pills, and I have found that like the evidence suggests, the liquid works much better because it is more easily absorbed into my system. There are very few side effects of glucosamine, so you shouldn't have to worry. Make sure you keep excersizing when you can. That's one of the best ways to combat joint pain and arthritis. - Too many people forget that! I prefer Synflex Liquid Glucosamine to any other brand. Like I said, I've used several brands and this one is by far the best.
