When can I eat....?

With summer coming up I know I will be spending most weekends at the lake (with my new body!) I am wondering when I will be able to eat a hot dog or hamburger? I know these are not the best food choices but that tends to be what we have for dinner there due to having 20-30 there at any given time. I don't want to be a pain with my new diet though if I can't do a hot dog or hamburger I will think ahead and bring something else.

The quest for excellence is a life long process
pre-op I loved hot dogs, now the smell of them makes me kind of queasy...but that said. once you are cleared for regular foods you can try them. I would do the burger, without a bun, and I would limit the ketsup (if you like it) because it has a good amount of sugar in it.

I actually eat a 4oz cheeseburger (no bun, pickles, little mayo/mustard/ketsup mixed together for dipping) pretty regularly from the grill at work.

Take a pkg of turkey dogs to throw on the grill! Probably no bun...
We're boaters, and were on the lake about 6 months after my surgery.

Hot dogs, even the expensive all-good-beef ones tended to have more fat than my pouch would tolerate. Hamburgers, even the ones I made at home with 93% lean ground beef, were either too big or so small that they were easily overcooked.

We found that taking marinated boneless/skinless chicken breasts (chicken on a stick), or making grilled shrimp with pesto and a half slice of turkey bacon for an appetizer was easy, and made my whole meal while the others had their burgers or dogs.

And then there were the really hot days when I just took a greek yogurt with SF preserves in it, buried it in the cooler, and had a very cold, sweet, melty dinner whenever I felt like it.

Last summer, at 18 months out, I did have some hot dogs and burgers, usually finished about 1/3 to 1/2 of one and threw out the rest. This summer will probably be the same.

Best of luck finding a way to make it work for you!

It took me almost a year to find a burger that I liked.  I kept wanting a burger, and was able to tolerate beef, but the taste changed so much, that every one I tried, I hated.

I'd be sure to try either one at home first, to see how you react.  In a gathering of 20 people you don't want to find out that you have 'issues'.

I believe Hebrew National makes a fat free hot dog. I really don't know too much about them.
