You enter it into a recipe builder, like myfitnesspal.com i use it for everything. it's a good lifelong skill to have, to know what you are eating.

that being said, i don't worry about sugar or carbs either. i don't eat processed carbs at all. my carbs come from fruit and veggies. i make sure to get my adequate protein intake and roughly stay under my calorie goal (although i've never been close to going over).

My Nutritionist recommends only counting protein.  She has us look at sugar etc, so we don't eat empty carbs, but we don't track it over the whole day.  Especially early on, it's hard to get all the protein you need, so that is the focus.  I didn't, and still don't have room for many carbs if I get in all my protein.

What should my calorie intake be??

I would ask your NUT.  they wouldn't tell me anything about calories before 3 months out.  They wanted me to just follow their rules and keep my protein where it was supposed to be.  but for 3 months i had a very short list of food i was allowed to eat.

now i still have stricter rules on when/what to eat, and they have a estimated daily goal.

I am just looking at fat and sugar 5 grms. each, count my protein in shakes and greek yogurt.
I think it is weird that everything I am eating is coming out of a can, seems so unhealthy , but it is what it is for now.
I am planning a hamburger pattie tonight, I make mine mixed with laughing cow cheese wedges , it makes the meat kinda goopy , I brown it on both sides and then add water and cover to  steam, it is very moist...we will see how it goes

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

I count everything because I am crazy but when I was early out I just counted protein because really was to hard to over eat or anything like that.  It was a chore just to get protein in.  I didn't want anything else.  As a diabetic for 28 years.......I count carbs and avoid sugar.  I reg my insulin according to carbs.  If you are staying with veg and fruit, I won't worry about it right now!
When you are early out like you are just follow the rules given.  Most tell you 1/4 cup per meal or less if you get full or something like that. and...  Protein, protein, protein.  If you follow the NUTs rules you don't have to worry about calories. You aren't eating enough to worry about calories.  I don't know that you have to COUNT sugar.  Just make sure that you limit it per meal so you don't get sick.

proteins.
And sugar - you do not want to learn if you dum*****t.
And fat - too much fat - may make you dump also - or make you so nauseated...

It is not necessary to look at calories if you are following the rest of the plan.  The restriction of your pouch and all the water and protein you need don't allow for many calories unless you're eating "bad carbs" .  The carbs you should be having are fruits and vegies.

Not necessarily... my NUT doesn't emphasize calories, but I do have to watch mine.  I get over 100g of protein, 100oz of water a day, and average about 1200 calories (absolutely no rice, pasta or white bread.. I use P28 protein bread).  There have been days where I had 1500 calories.

My nut told to only worry about protein and sugar

The only thing I have ever counted is protein, and the only reason I ever had any idea how many calories I was eating is because I was initially tracking my food every day in order to be sure I got enough protein.  The only thing my surgeon told us we needed to count was the protein.  She said that if we were following the PROTEIN FIRST ALWAYS rule, the calories would take care of themselves (and she was right!).  Once I was getting the protein in consistently, I stopped tracking, and now (almost 5 years out) I only go in once or twice a year and track 2 or 3 days just to make sure I am still in line.

It has worked well for me (even in maintenance) and I think part of the reason is that I don't track a bunch of things and deal with a bunch of numbers.  That would be like being on a perpetual diet and would be depressing as hell.

We had surgery on the same date. Right now my doctor wants me to focus on 60-80 grams of proteins a day, no carbs, sugar under 5 grams per meal, and 2-3 oz per meal. I usually end up under 400 calories per day. I use my fitness pal to help me track.

Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

In the beginning I counted protein grams and liquid oz as primary. Everything else was secondary

Then of course I realized I dumped, so I started to test my limits (not seeking a max, but so I could eat some things with confidence)... and found that single digit sugars were mostly safe.

Then I had reactive hypoglycemia, and found I couldn't exceed 25 g carbs

I don't count everything every day. I drink protein shakes as my beverage of choice, so I never worry about protein though frankly my protein from food has been abysmal as I've had issues with my teeth for the last year or so. One side finally got fixed this last week, and so I might eat more meat now that I can. The other side of my mouth has major work though, so who knows.

right now other than single digit sugar and 25 g carbs per meal, I don't count too much, but I do try to move my body more often. Since I realized my big issue with regain (small regain, but STILL) was more due to changes in how much I moved my body and not due to changes in diet, I've started to move my body, and the scale is inching down.

I count protein, sugar, and carbs.  I for the most part care about protein and sugar...but my surgeon told me that if I am to eat carbs that I should make sure that my protein is the same or more then the net carbs (i.e. carbs minus fiber).  So for instance I ate a chicken salad on lite wheat bread.  Two slices has 15 grams of carbs take away 5 fiber (I think) and there is 5 grams of protein, not to mention the protein from the chicken salad, you know?  So it evens it out. Anyways...I think you're doing alright...whatever your surgeon and nut tell you!

My post op diet was very conservative to start. 3 weeks of liquids, 3months of soft then nothing off limits per say. I am almost 2 1/2 years post op ans I STILL only count protein and sugar. I know I need at least 80g protein and I dont eat anything with double digits(over 10g) of sugar. I am very in tune to listening to my body and watching the scale. This is what works for me.

Good Luck
