(Hopefully) Helpful Tips From a 3 Year-Outter

Wow did i need to read this. Thank you so muchfor sharing and to everyone who has responded. I am just one year out and have done great so far....but...... starting to pick up bad habbits. I thought it was only me, and that i must not b worthy of the surgery. You have given me so much to think about and the knowledge that i am not alone.

you're very welcome. i'm glad my "venting purge" helped so many people already! DON'T STOP the routine! We're like food robots now. Just feed the pouch. Food = energy/necessity now. Food no longer = enjoyment/comfort anymore. For the rest of our lives. We have to find "that thing" to do to replace the comfort of eating. We were obviously out of control, or we wouldn't have had to get GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY! We're all bonded kin for life.

Actually, I would strongly disagree with your statement about us being like food robots and food not being for enjoyment anymore.  I still very much enjoy eating a delicious meal, and, in fact, I don't eat ANYTHING that does not taste really good!  (I will not just tolerate (let alone gag down) something -- including protein bars or shakes -- that I do not like just because it is good for fueling my body.  There is no need to.)   What could possibly be wrong with appreciating and savoring the subtle seasoning, perfect external sear, and tender, juicy texture of a bite of filet mignon?!?

There also can be a healthy, comforting aspect to food (I find certain foods somewhat comforting simply because they remind me of my grandmother), and there is nothing wrong with that as long as someone is not turning to food as their primary or sole source of comfort.

Having surgery does NOT mean having to give up an appreciation or enjoyment of food.  The potential problem lies not in the enjoyment or comfort, it lies in the lack of control.

I guess I feel that way because we have no money and I haven't gone out to eat in sooooo long. LOL. I cook delicious meals, loaded with veggies, etc. I guess I just meant we are food robots who have to eat a CERTAIN AMOUNT of food. I don't eat anything that is disgusting, either. I need to keep my lil pouchy happy. Happy Pouch = Happy Wife = Happy Life

Yes, a happy pouch and controlled portions are both important.  I just did not want people to think that if they have this surgery they will never (or shouldn't) enjoy food anymore.
