Weight Loss Surgery Directory

Ok... Just curious what everyone or anyone thinks????

I have hit maintenance 7 mons post op.. I think I fall into the light weight catagory..

Can our pouches those of us with RNY actually physically stretch out our pouches?? The common denominator in every person that I talked that has had this surgery that gained weight back is not that can eat large portions it's just that theyre eating all the time and the wrong things... I committed myself to this whole heartedly and change the way I eat and my eating habits...I am scared now that I'm here and do better know that I'm responsible for keeping myself here.. But I am just curious what some other thoughts may be...

Congrats on reaching goal. I think essentially you are correct. The biggest problem with regain isn't pouch stretching but grazing on high calorie foods throughout the day. I have heard that
Sometimes an enlarged stoma can have your stomach emptying too quickly so u feel genuinely hungery too quickly but I don't think this is the major contributor to regain.

I am still early out. Hopefully a vet or two will reply.

Good luck.

Andrea.

In my experience of being on here a looooooong time, the most common causes of regain seem to be:

Drinking while eating or too soon afterwards
Moving from protein forward meals to adding more carbs
Snacking on said carbs
Not exercising

Once the honeymoon period is over - and you probably still have a year or two left - you will NOT get away with the above changes to your RNY lifestyle.   Use the next year or two to consolidate what you have learned in the last 7 months and you should be fine!

8 years + post RNY - 100% EWL and maintaining ...

The carbs I think are the big thing. I belong to several regain groups and many meals I see posted are very carb heavy. My meals are still pretty protein heavy (and always heaviER on protein than carbs). I don't know if that's why I have maintained since my bounce without regaining any more but I do see the carb monster a lot amongsts us "bouncers."

Don't get me wrong, I eat my fair share too. And not always the greatest kinds but the one rule I've managed to stick to is protein first.

What should you eat for dinner tonight? How do you make a good protein shake? And just exactly what IS quinoa? The answers to all this and more can be found at Bariatric Foodie!

And see my surgeon advised me to drink with my meals... However I think it's because I lost the faster then either of us anticipated.... And I am having a hard time staying at my weight.. At least once a week I have a 3-5 lb weight lost then I spend the next couple of days trying to
Get extra calories( by extra calories I mean by eating healthy not high carb or bad foods) and I will stabilize off... I started this week being more aware of my caloric intake to try and plateau off... But I guess if I'm not gaining above what I'm losing I'm technically maintaining... Sometime it just helps to say it out loud...

From what I've seen most weight gain does not come from malfunction or stretching of the pouch but from plain old operator error.  Bad habits coming back.
