We've had a variet of laptop computers here. Toshiba, Dell, E Machine, Acer, and HP. I've had the Dell on extended warranty, and it's been back for repairs 3 times--but my wife is "hard" on computer, hence the extended warranty. I've had an E Machine for almost 3 years that recently failed, but it was under $300. I now have an Acer, I got from HSN on 4 monthly pays. I love the ACER. Nice keyboard feel, light in wt, lots of nice features. BUT, whichever computer you find, get decent virus protection. I think my E Machine failed due to the Micro Trend virus protection that came with it from Best Buy. I have Vipre on this ACER, which seems to work nicely. I've had NOD32 antivirus, works well, but has annual fees. The Vipre is purchased once with lifetime updates. I'd check out HSN.com or watch one of their computer shows. You can get a nice computer without payint 100% of it up front. And if you don't like it, you have 30 days to return it to HSN. They usually offer the Vipre virus software on a flash drive, usually good on 3-10 computers, on special at the same time as many computer presentations. DAVE
