After surgery.....AUGH

My sister did the lapband surgery today and WOW....she was a mess....she was out of it and then okay & got up & went to the bathroom....more meds....breathing in that machine (so no pneumonia)then dietician came in & then she was freaked out because so many people & so much noise and then she went to go get the swallow/leak test and almost passed out (test stopped) will try again tomorrow....terrible gas pains for her & now on different pain meds and hopefully she will be better tomorrow!!

so this all scared me......not looking forward to after RNY time (at the hospital).

the swallow test was hard for me I was like you want me to drink how much how fast? wth? but I kept the nasty stuff down which surprised me. I had a lot of pain and couldn't get out of bed by myself to go potty nor could I eat anything but ice while I was there. But all in all the morphine pump was my friend I slept away most of my time there.

I only have one bit of advice...take gas X with you on day 3 my hubby got a call at 7 am to get there as quick as possible with them for my gas pain... which the pain meds do NOT help.

Even with the pain it was alll worth it and looking back it was no worse than giving birth or any other surgery I 've had but you couldn't of told me that then lol. and now at a month out and down 7 inches in my waist?!?!? Holy crap it was worth every bit of it including the cursing I got from hubby when I woke him up lol

All the best to your sister.....

I had RNY as a 25 year diabetic in September and I breezed.  I felt fine, was out of bed within hours and didn't even need any pain medicines about 24 hours after surgery.  I was prepared to struggle and it was really fine.

This is my hope and prayer for you....and hope your sister has a better day tomorrow.
Everyone will react differently but I was fine after my RNY.  I was out of it coming out of the Anesthesia but other than that I had no problems.  I hope your sister feels better tomorrow

HW 351 SW 314 CW 169 ~ Surgery Day 6/5/12 - The first day of the rest of my life!

I had the lap band then revised to the RnY. I did great with both post operativly. No problems. Don't set yourself up to have problems " like you sis". You'll do great if you set your mind to it. Power of positive thinking.
For the first week, I felt like I was in a fog...probably due to my pain meds I took one day at a time. Sip Sip Sip...walk walk walk...toot toot toot...sleep sleep sleep. I was lucky to have my (unemployed) hubby at home to help me. My only complication is constipation, which I faithfully take Miralax, 2 colace and mag oxide daily for. On 6/18, I had gallbladder surgery.

Thanks everyone......I will try to remember that we are all different and just cause she had problems doesn't mean that I will. She's much better today, she said. She doesn't want anyone to come see her today. The room is super small and she gets claustrophobia & anxiety over people too close to her. Bumming a bit over that; since I wanted to make sure I got pics thru her journey.

Sister doing better.....she's finally got sleep (her roommate never shut up)and unable to move to a different room (overbooked surgeries and no empty rooms) and she's tolerating her liquids & soups; been able to walk; but tired. Said she'd do the surgery again....not hungry at all.....Just wanted to update you all.
