Meds after surgery

Had my bypass in October of 2011, I was perfectly fine on my adhd meds for quiet a while, my anxiety level was minimal and I carried for the most part my anxiety meds with me very rarely taking them, often beng able to talk myself out of the attack...

The past month or so, which would be about 8 months out, my adhd is awful, I feel like I can't stop, my anxiety is so bad, twice I brought myself to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack...

My question...please looking for answers....is medication a issue after surgery. I did read not to take extended release coated pills, which is what my adhd meds are...( I just read that)...any help would be so appreciateled I see my doctor for my adhd and anxiety on wednesday.
yeah, ask about switching to something not extended release.  The issue with extended release meds is that they are designed to dissolve and be absorbed slowly, usually over a 24 hour period.  That's why you just have to take them once a day.  But since we don't have a pyloric valve they don't stay in our pouch long at all, and since part of our small intestine has been bypassed, they move through our system faster than they do a "normal" system.  They might be in our system for 12 hours, maybe less.  So you might be absorbing only half the medication.

I also take extend release medicine for ADHD and I've been feeling the same way these last few weeks. I guess it's time to change it up..

That's good to know about extended release.  I take that for my depression meds and don't want  those to not be effective, that would be a bad thing for me!  Thanks for the tip I am seeing my PCP next week so will ask before it becomes a problem!
