Considering a Revision to RNY

I have had a Lap Band for one year and lost just over 100 lbs but I started to have problems about a month ago. I spoke with my Dr. last week because I couldnt tolerate most solid food and no proteins, we started talking revision them. Today, I went in for a floroscope and he said I now have a hiatal hernia and if we are going to talk revision it should be to RNY. I thought he was going to want to do a sleeve, so I did not consider RNY but now I am. I do know I will most likely not lose the remaining 125 lbs or so that I need to with the band. Any advise?
If you trust your doc , I would go with his advice, although you have done exceptionally well with a restrictive only procedure.
I have been very happy with my conversion to RNY . I don't see any reason why you could not loose 125 with RNY.
I originally wanted to covert to sleeve but my doc I trust said NO , and I took his advice
Best wishes and happy loosing

I had hiatl hernia from my lap band .  Revised to RNY and couldnt be more pleased..That band made me miserable.. Coukd not eat solid foods.  Pain was constant.  Had to do RNY due to the terrible damage to the stomach tissue etc...my doctor thought I would have better hormonal result from RNY as opposed to sleeve.

Mine also said NO to sleeve. She knows RNY is best for me. My band gave me a hiatal hernia as well. I got it repaired and never lost a lb for 5 years, actually gained about 44lbs! I revised in April, and I'm down 32lbs today, 2 1/2 months. I don't vomit or get stuck, it really was a good choice. Not always easy, but a good choice.

thank you everyone for your replies!
 Hi There,
My opinion is as follows: If you trust your surgeon, and you know (s)he has what is best for your health and future at heart/mind, then do your research to help you understand WHY your doc says RNY, take time to ask any questions left unanswered by your research, and then you will probably find it easier to agree with your doc's recommendation (RNY).

I am a Bandee with Band-Issues, and my Doc also wants to revise me to an RNY.  I did the research about the VSG, too, hoping I could do something "less drastic," but my surgeon strongly advises for the RNY, and after reading up on it, I understand that, for me, another restrictive-only approach doesn't meet my needs, so the RNY is the way to go.  Unlike you, my Band has given me issues since Month 1. ... CONGRATULATIONS on your success so far! #125 is awesome with the Band!....and you CAN do the rest !
