Not losing after RNY (5 weeks post op)

I'm feeling a little frustrated.  I was wondering if anyone else has extremely slow weightloss after RNY.  I lost big the first two weeks (12 lbs and 6 lbs), but over the last 3 weeks have only lost a total of 4.5 lbs.  It's killing me that I went through all this and I seem to be kind of stalled already.  Am I just destined to be fat forever!!!  My protien numbers are great, I'm drinking tons of water.  I try to keep my carbs as close to zero as possible.  I've tried eating more frequently, eating more calories, eating less calories.  I'm at a loss!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Barb

I lost 25 pounds in the first 3 weeks.

I did NOT lose for the next 5 weeks. Not an ounce, not a gram, not a smidgeon... I didn't lose NOTHING

It was only at the start of my 9th week that I started losing again.

It's natural
It's normal
it's expected

I got to goal.

I am a newbie to all of this my surgery is in 2 weeks but for what I have been reading you lost 22.5lbs in 5 weeks righ? I think that is great:-)
I am sure you will lose more soon .

have you met with your surgeon or nutritionist?

YOu have lost 22.5 lbs in 5 weeks. That averages over 4 lbs a week.

Believe me, you will lose weight! There were soooo many times, that first year, that I felt the same as you, that I'd NEVER lose the weight. And I did. It takes patience. It is not easy. It was the hardest year of my life. But I don't regret it one bit.

Things will speed up for you. The body goes through phases of little weight loss...and loads of weight loss. Just follow your doctor's instructions the best that you can.

I've lost 100 pounds. I was 266 to start. One year post-op, I was 149. Right now, I'm back to 165 but that's due to being on prednisone and as soon as I'm off of that, I'll be back to the 140's as I was still 3 months ago. Oh, I had the bypass in June of 2008.

Thanks Kallie,  I'm not a very patient person obviously.  HA  Congrats on your loss, 140's or 160's either way it's awesome!!!
So you've lost 22.5 pounds in just five weeks?  That is not extremely slow weightloss, it's actually extremely rapid weight loss.   A stall is when you lose nothing at all for 30 days or more.  losing 22.5 pounds in five weeks is not a stall!  I suggest you stay off the scale for a while since even extremely rapid weight loss causes you so much distress.

Thanks for the 'tip".  I guess you were the lucky one that never had any anxiety after surgery.
Oh, I had my share of anxiety.  But that doesn't mean losing 22.5 pounds in just five weeks is extremely slow weight loss.

Barb,
It's okay, I was right with you a couple of weeks ago, it just seems like the scale doesn't move fast enough for all the effort, but it's all good, it does happen, you'll get there.

I think this is more common than not.
The same thing happened to me. I seem to loose 1-2 lbs then nothings for a few weeks , then loose a little again , I think it is VERY weird , I have lost faster on a diet , without the :advantage" of bypass.
I am sure it will come off....sometime
I read yesterday that some lady lost 153 lbs in 3 months ...seriously ?????
Hang in there , this is pretty normal

I kind of thought that too about the "regular diet".  I'm not unhappy with what I have lost, I just thought in the beginning it would be more steady.  My husband keeps telling me it's not a race.  I should listen to him.  :)
I lost really fast my first two weeks, and then I stalled...and stalled, but I was losing inches. I'm 6 weeks out now and I am down 68 pounds. You will lose.

Barb, hang in there! Your body is freaking out right now. You've probably been heavy for quite a while by the time you're having RNY and your body doesn't know what to think of all of this change. Try to find peace in knowing that you are totally on the right path and we're all pulling for you! -Kate

Thanks Kate.  I'm just whining.  I feel better after seeing some of these responses.  I'm expecting too much and need to chill. :)
How about exercising? Can you incorporate more?

I am still waiting on a revision date... so I can only speak from my horrid Lapband experience ;-)

Good luck and hang in there!!

Thanks Sherrie, good luck on getting your revision date.
Thank you for all you comments.  I feel better just knowing that what is happening is normal.  I guess that I am expecting too much.  Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the weight that I have lost so far.
There is no "only" in weight loss.
You will lose again. Try measuring yourself and keep track of that.
Research recipes.
Take a walk.
Stay off the scale.
