Weight Loss Surgery Directory

How many of you keep a journal?

I started keeping a journal detailing each week's weight loss and pictures every 20 pounds or so.  I started it just to have for later in my life, to remember; however, I am finding that when I feel like I'm failing (I feel that way a lot, lifetime of diet failure there lol), and when I feel like I'm struggling or not losing enough, I go back and read through and see how far I've come and how much I've lost, even in the last month.  If I have a week where I don't lose at all or have a gain (had my first gain of 1/2 pound last week), the journal helps me see the whole story and hopefully keep me from ever giving up in despair, as in the past.

So, do you journal about your journey and how does it help you?

I've always journaled, since I was pretty young.  Not specifically about my weight loss, though.  Just about my life in general, my thoughts, feelings, etc.

I plan on keeping one. I'm planning to record my monthly weight and stats, but to journal the whole process--including pictures. I'm using the 14th of every month as my monthly weigh-in date, which is my surgery date.
I keep a journal, (Blog) that you can read. It is in my signature. It is not just about my weight loss, but mostly related to it now as it is the main thing in my life for awhile. I also enter everything, weight loss, what I eat, how much I drink (water), and exercise in MyfitnessPal.com. So I can and do look back at what I have done. I take status photos of myself ever few months, but I have not posted them on my Blog yet but will soon. I think it is an excellent idea to keep a journal it can be a great motivator when things get a little slow in the loss department.

I'm an avid writer and love to journal. I keep three separate journals: a private one, my blog (in my signature), and a food/weight loss journal on sparkpeople.

Even eight years post-op, I really prefer weighing and journaling my food as opposed to try to eyeball things. I don't have the best perception of that and this keeps me really honest. I use a recipe calculator for everything I cook and bake to determine appropriate portions and see where substitutions are possible.

My blog has been a lifesaver over the course of my weight loss journey. Baking is something I couldn't give up, and I can't tolerate artificial sweetener. I've learned that sharing recipes there and bringing things to my coworkers is the best way for me to deal with what can be a binge problem for me. Slowly but surely I've learned "Keep one or two and give the rest away." That's not something that works for everyone, and it doesn't work perfectly for me. I still do my best to use less sugar, palm sugar (low glycemic) or stick to fruit as a sweetener. Like you, it also helps me see how far I've come.

For the 1st year I blogged on OH every month, and took pictures every month.

I kept a food journal daily for several years-I pretty much eat the same all the time now, so I only do a food journal when I've gained a few lbs or feel like I'm "off the reservation".

Every anniversary of my surgery I go and look at my pictures and read my blog.

Now I update the blog once a year or so.

I keep a food diary and yes I write my weight down in it everyday. Its the only way I'd be able to keep track. I also write about my day and how I feel, how much I exercised, and occassionally my measurements(when I check them).

I keep a journal of my daily food intake-all foods, but track specifically grams of protein, fluids, and vitamins taken daily. Once or twice a week I'll weigh myself and write it in there. I find it's a good way to keep myself accountable and on the path to my goal.

I have always kept a journal/diary, since I was a child. I've always liked to write. I still keep a journal now, but not about what I eat. I do track my food, but I do it on my phone. Helps to keep track if how much I eat and to see when I stop loosing weight, what I changed.
