OT - Said goodbye today.

Today I said goodbye to the person in my profile picture. That was us at the Komen Race for the Cure in October of last year.
She has been one of my best friends for 21 years. My college roommate.
She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2007.
In 2010 it showed up in her liver... after a short remission.
Today, she is unresponsive in Hospice care and will leave behind her husband and 7 & 11 year old children.

Please, if you read this... do your self breast exam.  If you are 35 or over, please go get your mammogram.  PLEASE take care of yourself.

My friend asked me to continue to be an advocate for her and early detection... so that's what I am doing.

 So sorry for your loss!
So sorry for your loss.  I lost my mother to breast cancer.  I would also add that those that have a history of breast and/or ovarian cancer in their family please get tested to see if you have the breast cancer gene mutation.  Knowing will give you some preventative options to consider that could save your life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a terrible grief for you and her family. *hug*

Thanks everyone.  You are all very sweet.  Her children have a loving husband and an amazing family support system with all 4 grandparents that are very involved.  When the sadness is over, all the memories will be good ones.

I know its just not the same but I feel your pain.  This weekend I went up to visit my Grandpa who is dying of Cancer as well.  He is still responsive and  i got to talk to him and hold him and kiss him and tell him how very much I love him.

And I walked away this morning knowing that there is a very real possibility I will not see him alive again.  And the tears fall easy!

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Its so hard to watch someone we love be taken by this horrible thing (cancer)....

Giant Hugs to you and her family/friends.

Juls
