Some advice please

I'm 3 weeks post op and so far I've gone from 284 pre op weight and down to 252. Is it normal to lose that much weight so quickly? I'm following my doctors orders when it comes to eating and having my protein shakes, and trying to consume as much water as possible. Anyone else out there have this experience?

Jens-I'm a 1.5 weeks post op and I've 10lbs so it's possible I suppose. I'm eating purée foods and supplementing my protein with shakes and yogurt. Keep up the good work!

I was a lightweight (BMI 40) and lost 120lbs in 6 months to 20lbs under goal (normal BMI) ...  not sure if it's usual, but don't see it as a problem.  A loss is a loss - maintaining that loss is the key to long term success!

8 years + post RNY - 100% EWL and maintaining ...

I am almost 7 weeks post op and have lost about that much. I wish I was losing like you! It is depressing to be following orders to a T and barely losing anything for weeks. Enjoy it! I have seen others post about their quick weight loss. I don't think it is abnormal. Everyone's bodies just respond differently.

Its normal. I lost about 30 pounds my first month too. Everyone loses at different rates. Oh, and don't freak out when you go awhile without losing--its called a stall--and its perfectly normal, especially for us fast losers. Good luck. :)

I'm two weeks out and have lost 21 lbs. I think it depends on the person and the post op diet. My post op was total liquids, just moved to puréed. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts, not looking forward to a stall.

My guess is it is normal for you.  There is no "normal" that applies to everyone.  Some lose fast, some slow.  Some have stalls, some have none.  I lost every single week for 13 months and never had one stall.....each person is different.

Follow the doctor's orders and concentrate on forming good habits that will carry you through for years to come.  Maintenance is when you'll appreciate what you learned.

I lost weight quickly, too. YOU WILL EVEN HIT PLATEAUS.    Everybody is different. Follow doctor's advice and you will be fine!  Drink, get in your protein, and exercise.

I am 3 weeks postop too.  When I started my preop liquid diet I was 268, surgery date I was 255, and I am now 237, so I guess including the preop diet I'm down about 31 lbs in a month.
