1 Year Surgiversary
I can't believe that 1 year ago today I began this amazing journey. All too often people say, "why did I wait so long." Truth is, there were several factors that had me wait. First and foremost, insurance would not cover it, and there was no fighting it. Second, for the longest time I thought I would be admitting failure if I could not pick myself up by the bootstraps and lose the weight on my own. We all know how that goes.
Anybody that tells you that this is and easy fix, or that you are a failure, does not know the work that goes into the plan. So, if you are newbie here, then I commend you for making this choice and get ready for the ride to health.
Here are the stats. I started a pre-op diet one month out and lost 35lbs and an additional 158lbs since surgery, for a total loss as of today of 193lbs. I went from 463lbs to 270lbs. Pants were a size 64 waist, and I am now in a size 44 waist pants.
There are too many NSV's to mention, but the highlight of course was flying for a speaking engagement and fitting in the seat without an extender. This was the first in over 17 years. My wife who never saw the outside has literally never seen me this thin, and we will be married 17 years this year.
This has given me a new lease on life, and I am able to do things now that I only dreamed of before. I still have about 60 lbs more to lose to reach my goal, but it is so in reach now.
Thanks to everyone here for your posts, and for being a family that encourages each other, and kicks butt when it is needed as well.
I am on a brand new mac and do not have all my pictures transferred over yet, so I hope to have that posted in the next day or two. Here is one from before surgery on a cruise, and here is one from my birthday cruise in February, just shy of 10 months out.
Here's to all of us!
