Wondering if anyone else has experienced this, yesterday and today when I wake up I am so horribly nauseous and then it seems to just come in waves after a couple hours. Worse after I drink. It has been 23 days since surgery

Any suggestions are appreciated

Yes. I was nauseas off and on and for no apparent reason for about the first 4-6 weeks. Then one day, it's just gone and you feel great. Take it easy. You're still very early in your recovery.

Are you sufficiently hydrated? Dehydration can cause nausea. I also found if I drank too fast (I'm just 1 week out), that can cause nausea.

I wasn't nauseous often after surgery, but it's really common. Fortunately these days there's good medicine for that. Talk to your surgeon about a prescription for Zofran to deal with nausea. They come in dissolving pills and make you feel better almost as soon as you pop it in your mouth. Nausea needs to be controlled because 1) it can make you not want to drink water, and staying hydrated is THE most important thing right now and 2) vomiting + stomach staples = not so great for healing.

Don't worry that something is wrong because it is normal, but do make sure you address it. Don't ever let yourself suffer in silence. When you feel bad, make sure you talk to someone about it and treat it appropriately.

I was nauseated for a few months after surgery. Just off and on. Let the surgeon know. I couldn't do protein shakes or take vitamins. It does get better. Hang in there. It's a lot like being pregnant :) There are meds they can try if its bad enough....

So what happened? I mean you stop trying to drink the shakes? Because I'm 13 days out and the shakes and vitamins make me sick. :(

Just do it!
