Not losing much weight in the mid section... is my belly late to the losing party or what?

I am about 3 and 1/2 months out from RNY and I have noticed that I have lost a LOT of weight in my face, arms, legs, fingers, breasts, upper body etc but my midsection is a little late to the party. I know that it is still early and I am not being impatient, just inquisitive haha.

I have always carried most of my weight in my stomach area and am curious if it is common that perhaps that is the last place to lose it? I have heard before that biologically our bodies like to store fat there the longest because in nature that is what would protect our organs and keep our body temp up? Is this true? Or have any of you experienced the loss more in other areas than a particular spot?

I know that we all lose at different rates and have different bodies but I am just curious.

For now, I am still rockin' my bowling pin / pear- shape body but I am excited for when I can shed the stomach area too! I have been doing a lot of ab workouts at the gym and am working with a trainer to help!

Happy Thursday!

Everyone is a little different, but you can't target specific areas to lose. You have more around the middle because that's where you had the most to begin with.

I've been the same weight for about a year, and things are still shifting around. I think just about everyone has a gaunt face at first, but that fills in. It's obvious to me now, watching things even out some, why they want you to wait before doing plastic surgery.

Keep working out, but don't expect that belly fat to melt. Keep to your plan, and expect things to continue redistributing for quite a while after your weight loss stops.

I would say this is fairly normal, most people do not lose around their mid section and then have a fat face.

Also, I think the face and other areas like you mention are more easy to see the changes.  I still have a lot to lose in my belly and thighs and such, so it seems like maybe I have not lost that much, but I am down 75 lbs and I can really tell it in my face and all, but when I consider how many pant sizes I have gone down, I realize I have lost in my mid section as well.

Great attitude and keep up the good work.

THank you! I think we had our surgery around the same time, I am down 78lbs and I totally relate to your response. I think "I have lost a lot of weight so far but I can only see it in my face" but you are right, it may just be easier to see it there!

Keep up the good work as well! :)

I'm right with you. I am down almost 100 pounds since surgery and my stomach is just now going down. I have to admit I don't exercise as much as I should that would probably help...

Women tend to hold the weight around the hips and abdomen. The whole child bearing thing.

I am a little over 6 months out and have experienced that my tummy is still the biggest part of me followed by my hips!! I honestly think that it will just get better with time.

From what I can tell it all depends on body type.  I have an aunt who is very pear shaped and whenever she loses weight her tummy and upper body are the first to go but her thighs and hips are playing catch up.

I am experiencing the same thing. It is my his and thighs that refuse to budge though!

Annoying!
