Just wondering
This may be a stupid question but I honestly don't know so I figured I would ask. Are you able to do normal things after bypass? I mean, after you are completely healed, can you still do things like playing with little kids. I have a young brother who likes to jump on a trampoline, would I be able to get on there and play with him? & things like yoga after I've lost some weight, I'd like to do yoga, like would you be able to do all the stretches etc? I'm just wondering if we as bypass patients would always have to be cautious about things we do so we don't hurt our pouches or anything. Thanks guys.
When we leave the hospital, we cease to be "patients". You will have restrictions on lifting for up to 6 weeks, but once that time is up, you will essentially be the same as everyone else and will be able to undertake the same activities as anyone else!
The ONLY thing you will have to do for the rest of your life is supplement your vitamins and minerals according to your regular blood tests - THAT'S IT! Everything else you do will be a choice - what you eat, how you exercise etc ... Now, there will be good choices and not so good choices, but they will be yours to make.

Things like yoga and jumping on a trampoline will not hurt your pouch. We are not that fragile.

It certainly isn't a stupid question... I have co-workers and friends ask me this frequently!
I do MORE of all of these things now! I couldn't play with my grandkids before because I couldn't fit in the slide, the swing was uncomfortable, and I got tired just walking after them, much less running! I dreaded fire drills because I work on the 20th floor!
Now!!!!!!!! I spent the first week in July playing with my grandkids - I slide, swing, and chase them around the park. We went swimming and I could actually lift them and toss them around the pool! I've gone jet-skiing and it is much better now.
Oh - and that dreaded 20 story walk down! It is nothing to me now! I've actually done it a few times just for the exercise now!
I can stretch so much better now that all my extra fat isn't getting in the way!
The only thing stopping me from a trampoline would be my left knee and my right ankle - previously injured years ago but weak now - I'm not gonna risk injuring them again. If I get a chance I'm going to do one of those vertical wind tunnel flying things where you fly above a huge fan!
Yes, you can do all the normal activities/exercises you used to do. Now that I am not 270 anymore, I can do even MORE NORMAL activities than I could before.
Today- I added a new "normal" activity to my repetoire....I took a TRX class at the gym and burned 327 calories in 40 minutes! I would have never done this before at my heaviest. TRX is weight lifting using your bodyweight. I was 270!!! No way in hell I am going to try to military press using my body weight.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
I've started doing in-home yoga sessions with a friend that's a certified instructor. I'm 9 months out and I haven't run into any issues. One thing she had me do last week was put a squishy inflated ball under my abdomen and lay on it to stretch the abdominal muscles. It felt very weird, but not unpleasant or painful and I did have a thought for my rearranged plumbing! After you're all healed up, you'll be able to do whatever you want!
