Oops! Sugar intake question

I screwed up this morning and had a Starbucks Decaf Skinny Caramel Machiatto.  For some reason I thought it only had 5-10 g of sugar, to my HORROR it has 32g!  I did not get sick (thankfully) but does this mean I am not a dumper?  I feel so stupid!

Skinny should be both sugar and fat free. If it wasn't and you didn't get sick, you are not a dumper.

Since it is made with milk, it is not sugar free because milk contains sugar, in the form of lactose.

I don't know if this means you aren't a dumper but I wouldn't test that theory.  I would say just celebrate that you didn't dump this time.  When I go to Starbucks, I order my coffee sugar free.  They taste just as good and you don't have to worry if you will dump this time.  Enjoy!

Skinny means that they use sugar-free syrups and fat-free milk.  But the milk is not sugar-free.  So, that is where the sugar comes from.  Some people who dump don't dump on natural sugars (fruits, milk, etc.)  Some do.  I dump on white sugar and go into carb coma when I eat a carb-laden meal, but I don't dump on fruits or milk.

I guess time will tell for you.

The Starbucks website also says that they still put the caramel drizzle on skinny drinks despite having sugar in it!

I know one thing is we have to read everything.I ended up sick from eating some frozen berries.I didn't realize they had added sugar.So I read everything now.Don't feel stupid look at it as a lesson learned.

Are you sure you looked at the right one? I am looking at the regular caramel machiatto right now and it has 32g of sugar.

The website acutally doesn't give the breakdown for that specific flavor in a skinny. It just has the "Flavored skinny latte" option which is supposed to represent the SF syrups and NF milk and the Venti of that is only 21 grams.

So unless they slipped you the syrup with the sugar you probably didn't get over 17-19grams. (Unless you did have the Venti) And that does not mean you are not a dumper. I can handle up to 28gram of sugar in some things now.

For me it depends on the food or the form. Liquids with sugar will kick me right away. I can eat a cookie but half a banana will make me ill.

I think you are correct.  The regular has 32g but the skinny has 18g.  That makes more sense.  Still more than I wanted but much more reasonable.  Thank you for the update!

I did not get sick when I mis-calculated sugar grams, as well.  The only difference, I would have posted the word "unfortunately" instead of "thankfully" in parentheses : /
