Liquid Diet pre-op very strict

I started my pre-op liquid diet on Monday, Surgery is 11/3.  I was doing fuller liquids:tomato soup and strained mushroom soup. I went to a large class and they said that these were ok.  I called my nutritionist on tue and found out I need 65g protein (knew that) but can only have 8oz milk total and 8 oz juice-I don't drink anyway but other than that it is pretty much cl liquid: sg jello, crystal light, broth and sugar-free popcicles ( don't have a freezer at work).  I have had h/a and fatigue and I am detoxing from 6-8 diet cokes and 2 cups of coffe a day.  This is hard, my IBS is acting crazy and the lack of food, I am very fatigued.  I have wanted this over a decade, I am going to do it but I cannot tell a lie, this is so hard.  I just want mushroom soup lol (but I won't).  Did anyone hve to do this?

you cant do protein shakes? How are you supposed to get that much protein in without the shakes?? Those will keep you feeling fuller as well.

You definately should be including protien shakes and I was eased into the full liquid preop diet and it was only for 7 days. I started the preop diet 3 weeks before surgery and it started with replacing a meal a day for shake on week 1 and then 2 meals a day for 2 shakes on week 2 and then full liquids for a week it make it bearable and did not send my body into shock. Talk to your dr and find a protein shake that you like because it is a must on any all liquid diet.

There is definitely something missing from what you said, if you have to get 65g of protein in. You didn't even mention any protein. I use Genepro unflavored protein (bought on Amazon) It's the only one I know of that you can mix directly in hot soups. I would drink the milk and the juice just because you may need the calories. Good Luck

Mine was for two weeks and i changed surgeons in the middle of that so it wound up being four. Shakes, soups, Isopure is in the cold section at GNC....mine included a little bit of cream of rice, as a pre-op, and a little bit of pudding........It was hard to come of soda, that took about two weeks and then I never wanted to look at another one. If you have time before your surgery try mineral water while you can still tolerate fizzy stuff...it helped me because I was detoxing from the caffeine, the sugar and the bubbles...one thing at a time, but definitely, ultimately, all of it. Good luck...some folks lose weight on the pre op diet, so it's kind of nice going into surgery in loose fitting clothes......

I was on a 3 week liquid diet pre-op.  I could have protein shakes, sf drinks, no caffeine coffee and tea, sf jello, boullion.  I could use milk in my shakes, no more than 800 calories a day.  No food at all.  I lost about a pound a day.  This diet was to shrink my fatty liver before surgery.  Protein per day shoot for 65 grams or more.  It isn't easy but keep your eye on the prize and follow the Dr's plan.

Good luck, you can do this.

My surgery is November 5th and I'm doing 2 shakes a day and a mini meal of no more than 400 calories.  I can also have sugar free jello as well as broth. I get my protein from the shakes

Ditto on the protein shakes for me, as well.  I was allowed a protein shake for breakfast and lunch.  Dinner was a small light meal with sugar free jello and popcicles for snacks.

My surgery is on Friday and I am on my two week pre-op diet.  All liquid.  Broth and strained cream soups, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding made with milk, and protein drinks.  I like the Nectar brand the best or unjury chicken soup.  Have to have the shakes to get the protein in.  65 grams a day and under 800 calories.  I drink usually 2-3 cups a milk a day.  Some as milk and some in the SF pudding. I have been at around 700 calories a day and try to get as close to the 65 grams of protein as I can.
