Just breathe! This is the best thing you'll ever do for yourself! Try to think about 6 months from now and how awesome you will feel and look instead of the surgery itself! You'll do fine! Good luck!

Seriously, it's not that bad. You'll do great. Hang in there and think happy thoughts.

I had mine on December 10th, and I can relate to getting the jitters just beforehand! I have this technique that works for me where I think "This time next week..." or "This time next month..." or day or year, whatever is relevant for the situation.

  • When I went in for RNY I kept thinking to myself "This time tomorrow I'll be out of surgery and on my way to a healthier me".
  • When I got to my room, a bit woozy and sore, I kept thinking to myself "This time next week I'll be at home and already half way through phase 1 of the recovery diet".
  • Since I've been home I do much the same thing "This time next month I'll be feeling stronger and eating something other than broth and shakes :)"
  • But what really motivates me in the moment is "This time next year I'll be able to play with my kids without getting exhausted".

So my suggestion is pick a few very near term goals related to your progress, achieve those, and keep rolling. You're going to do great!

I had my surgery Wednesday. It really wasn't bad at all.  Just ask for pain meds and nausea meds when you need it.  I had never had surgery before, so I was nervous. It was much better than I expected. You can do this! I already feel it's worth it after just 5 days.  I'm even getting out and going not church today and then Walmart.
