3 days out, can't handle the protein shakes
WHAT were you planning to poop? Milk, tea or water ?
Getting in sufficient fluids is the most important thing for you at this stage ... You can try protein shakes when you feel up to them! If you want something savory, you might enjoy some chicken or beef broth for a change.

I had surgery on Tuesday morning...they gave me Isopure (chocolate) while I was in the hospital and I liked it so much I bought some yesterday! I'm focusing mostly on fluids though... And I actually got my 64oz in yesterday, barely! The isopure can be mixed with 6oz of water and it's not thick at all... And 25 g of protein! It is kind of sweet though. I'm drinking mostly decaf tea and water. As for pooping, I hear ya! My gas pains have been horrible! I got some gas X strips yesterday and that helps. I have actually already used the bathroom... But as someone else said, there's not exactly much to eliminate at this point LOL. How is your throat? Mine hurts like heck!!!
The gas pains aren't like the gas you get from eating something. This gas is from surgery. They pump gas into the cavity to blow you up like a balloon. It's how they are able to maneuver around inside. Gas X won't help. The best thing you can do to get rid of those pockets of gas is walk, walk, walk.

You know, i remember having trouble with the thickness of the shakes, too. After surgery, the Nectar brand shakes worked the best for me. They have both fruity flavors and traditional ones. I used to use the Fuzzy Navel mixed with a similar flavor of Crystal light. It was thin and less repulsive to me. You can get sample sized packs at the Vitamin Shoppe.

I'm 2 weeks post op. The nurse called me the day after I got home and said if I hadn't pooped yet to try Milk of Magnesia. She said the stool softener they gave me only makes you soft if doesn't make you go. I also like the Nectar, however I mixed mine with non fat milk which made it less sweet for me. You could always just add like a teaspoon to your skim milk and then increase.
