Problems with strictures?
I had my surgery about a year ago and I did end up with a stricture that required surgery at about 6 weeks post op but I think that may have been due to going back to work a week after surgery. I work as a hospice nurse and I do a lot of lifting of quadraphlegic patients. I'm pretty sure I brought that on myself. Since I felt so good after surgery I didn't take the need to rest and heal as seriously as I should have.

strictures are not caused by lifting. They are caused by scar tissue growing over the area and partially/completely concluding it.
In support group, it's common to hear about strictures happening within the first six months post-op. One guy went in six different times but the out-patient procedure he described doesn't sound like too big an ordeal, however. Pre-op, I asked different medical staff if there was a way to prevent a stricture. The answer was "no" followed by a "be sure to stay well-hydrated."
I am 18 months out. No issues of any kind. I had RNY using the divinci robot which is stated to have less problems with leak, stricture, and healing. I cant confirm that because I may not have had an issue anyway! I did the research then checked if my surgeon had that option and if I was a candidate. we decided to go that way! something to look into anyway!
