Hernia's

So I believe I have several hernia's, from weight issues? maybe, but I can feel the bulges under my skin and sometimes those spots are extremely painful, ie tying shoes or bearing down when going to restroom?

Anyways my PC doc seems to think it might be helpful in order to qualify for a tummy tuck after this whole thing is over.  I'm going in today to get a CT scan...  but based on what Ive read, it seems like a lot of folks get hernias from the actual bariatric surgery.  My RNY isn't until next mth.  I'm just wondering if I should have waited for the CT scan...so looking forward to the barium I have to drink in an hr...

What do you all think? Would it have been smarter to wait until after?  Did hernias actually qualify any one else to get a tummy tuck?

I haven't ever heard of hernias used to justify a panniculectomy as medically necessary.  Nevertheless, I don't think you could have "waited" anyways because the surgeon would have probably found them during your RNY anyways and repaired them.

My abdominiplasty (TT) and diastis repair were medically necessary based on my medical need to have multiple hernias repaired. One of the hernias was from a C-section scar, # 2 from my lap band port and the third from the excess skin pulling on weak muscles following my WL. It was covered 100%.

I have a new hernia surgery scheduled in a few weeks related to the Perersen's space which is a complication from the RNY success.

Hope you get yours sorted and feel better soon! Ashley

Go for the cat scan. I had a hernia wrapped around my bowels and it was the worse pain I ever felt.  Get it checked out.

Ick barium is so not good!  But its done, They said I have to wait though for the results from my GP doc...

Bert, My initial thought when I mentioned them to the GP, was could the surgeon repair them as you mentioned or use the worst ones as access points for the pending surgery to minimize further potential ones.

I hate to say it, but now knowing some others (Ashley) have been successful in getting the abdominoplasty done...its tempting to just ride it out for now.  I'm sure he'll check anyways, both the drs and the diagnostic center are in the same hospital.

If they are not causing you any major problems I would wait to have it done like Ashley did.

I was hoping to do that but then I went to the ER in so much pain. I went to my doctors on Monday and he admitted me for surgery to be done that night.
