Going back under the knife.

I've been having some abdominal pain off and on for a few weeks. Nothing serious. Usually after drinking water or flavored water on an empty stomach. Food sometimes does it too. But Monday night it got so bad! Burning and sharp at the same time. I emailed my surgeon. He said to take nexium and see if it helps and that it could be my gallbladder.

Went in yesterday to see him and had an ultrasound done. Gallstones it is. He said they are very tiny which is not good because they can travel to your bile ducts. In a normal anatomy they can receive those stones through an endoscopy but because of the bypass it would mean a lot more serious surgery he said.

So it's scheduled for feb 28. He said to continue nexium and try to avoid greasy food and if I get severe pain again we will have to go in as an emergency and do it. Also if a sooner date opens up they will call me and schedule me sooner.

So just hoping for the best. Praying those tiny stones stay put and I have an easy outpatient procedure as planned!

On a good note, I mentioned to him that I know my weight loss is slow but at least it's happening. This was a revision so I figured it would be. But he smiled and kinda gasped and said "slow!? That's not slow.  That's fast." Then he laughed. Lol I'm 10 weeks out and down 32.5 lbs. I'll take it!

Praying all goes well for you!!! I agree with your Dr. slow you are not. You are averaging over 3 #'s a week. I would take that in a heartbeat!!! I have not had my surgery yet. Praying insurance approves and I can have it on 3/10/15. Wishing you the best with your surgery and a very speedy and well recovery!

You are smart.  You are brave.  Seeking help right away is the right way to deal with issues before they become bigger problems.  (dread of going to the doctor landed me in the hospital for a week with an infected gallbladder before surgery could be done to remove it)  So, how much does a gallbladder weigh?  Not much, but you could think of it as a bonus subtraction to faster weight loss!

I know this won't help, but bad gallbladders happen a lot to people with large weight loss, not just us.

Keep us posted, and good luck.

Wishing you a safe and speedy recovery from gall bladder surgery and that the stones stay put so you don't need emergency surgery.

Hugs, Cari
