what type of iron are you taking?  some are much gentler on the stomach and also easier absorbed, like this:

What kind of iron are you taking?  Ferrous sulfate often causes stomach problems as well as constipation.  The other iron salts might do the same thing.  Carbonyl iron rarely causes these problems, though, since it's all elemental iron.  It's also absorbed better in a low-acid environment like out pouch.

I take carbonyl iron and I take it with some food.

Ferrous sulfate frequently causes stomach problems.  That's because it contains so much iron salts as well as elemental iron.  There are other forms  of iron that don't cause stomach problems as often and are also absorbed better.

I buy my carbonyl iron with vit C from VitaLady. I also take 300mg daily and it's 5 capsules. There's 400 in a bottle for $31.99, shipping is $4.95 and I usually buy a years supply.

I take Proferrin, a heme iron, which gives me no side effects at all - even on an empty stomach!
