It could just be allergies. It's the beginning of Spring allergies. Even if you haven't noticed before, you could be getting them. I have sworn that I was getting a cold many times, when it was just allergies. Hopefully it's nothing more.

I so rarely get sick but I did manage to come down with a horrible cold just a day or two ahead of surgery; the surgeon said he was okay with going ahead if I was comfortable with it. I said yes (it had already been rescheduled 5 - count 'em 5 - times). Surgery was a snap, though I was unable to sleep during my 24 hr hospital stay because the pulse ox alarm kept going off; I couldn't breathe very well LOL! Other than that I was fine, and really I didn't care about sleeping as I was otherwise comfortable and very happy the surgery was done and I was on my way. You are several days away, should be just fine by then. Stay hydrated and good luck!

3 to 5 days max for a cold. I WISH. I have ALWAYS been prone to colds. The only time I did not have back to back to back colds was after I was out of school and before my kids started school. A cold for me starts and will not finish with coughing and sneezing for no less than 2 full weeks. I got one at the beginning of February that I still will cough a couple times a day with. My mother always told me with a cold it will last for 21 days, or if use medicine (cough syrup not the useless antibiotics many force doctors to give them, but do NOT work on virus like colds) it only lasts 3 weeks.
I hope the original poster is able to be healthy and have the surgery as planned. Runny noses are the pits, but if allergy it is better than full blown cold.
