Is it bad to drink Caffeine if you get your 64 oz of water in?  I always usually drink Decaf but this week I have drank a few of cups of coffee with caffeine and couldnt remember the doctors comments on this.

Thanks

I was allowed caffeinated coffee at 6 months.  I think you're supposed to drink extra water to make up for the dehydrating effects of caffeine.  I really can't remember or didn't pay attention because I drink a ton of liquid anyways...LOL

About 5 months out I started drinking coffee again. Surgeons seem to have different views on coffee. Mine was worried it increased cravings (maybe from all the crap people usually put in it). I drink at least 8 cups a day with no ill effects.

Caffiene does not cause dehydration.  See article from the Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/caffeinated-drinks/faq-20057965

However, Caffiene can make ulcers worse so watch out for that if you are prone to them.

Be careful.  I caffiened myself into a bout of gastritis. I'm on the tail end of a course of Prilosec and I only allow myself 1 caffeine drink a day. Be aware of stomach discomfort that may occur even several hours after consumption.

I drank coffee until a few weeks ago when I too was dx with gastritis. VERY painful.

Caffeine isn't worth it  :(

I avoid caffeine - don't anticipate that I will ever have a caffeinated drink again, and I don't miss it.  If I am recalling correctly, my program allows for one caffeinated drink per day.  When in doubt, best to check in with your program, but also think about why you want caffeine.  I don't miss it - the hard part was stopping - I lived on diet coke and tea.  Best wishes!

My program has no caffeine restrictions other than making sure you are getting in all your water first. I can't live without caffeine. I've tried many times, but I just can't reach the same level of alertness without it. I started drinking tea one week after surgery, and started drinking espresso this week. I have finals coming up! Everything I have read states that caffeine isn't inherently harmful unless you consume it in excess, meaning more than a pot of coffee per day.
