The idea of surgery terrifies me

my sister in law has has great success with gastric bypass and didn't have any complications a and still doesn't have hardly any. I've dieted and done diet pills but I'm at my wits end. I really want to do the surgery and she wishes she had done it sooner. I'm so terrified, with the help of YouTube, of surgery. How many of you had complications and who didn't hardly have any? I need any words of encouragement you guys can give.

Thanks in advance

Surgery is my biggest fear in life but I knew I had to face that fear to change my life. It was 100% worth it. After 6 months I have lost 96 lbs and am over half way to goal. I was a high risk surgery due to other illnesses I have but I had a great surgery team who understood all of that and were not intimidated. The only complication I had was getting a staph infection afterwards (not on surgical site). Otherwise no problems. The key to me is finding good reputable location to have it done. With a knowledgable surgeon.

I had zero complications.

I'm pretty typical. I looked into surgery, decided I could do it myself, and delayed for about 5 years. Finally had surgery, and wished I had done it sooner.

I have had absolutely zero complications too. I lost about 150 pounds is a bit less than a year and have kept it off for over two years. I no longer have high blood sugars or high cholesterol or triglycerides and constant knee and back pain. My blood work is perfect and I am able to live the active life I couldn't even imagine before surgery. Wish I had done it sooner too!

I had zero complications. I had contemplated some kind of WLS about 2 years ago. Finally I got fed up with myself and my declining health and decided to persue WLS seriously. I have lost approx 90lbs and am currently in maintanence.

No complications. Best decision EVER!  Would do it yearly if that was how it was done!!

I am three weeks out and have had no complications. The recovery has been slow for me due to pulling a muscle and popping some internal stitches, but that is all on me. The "mechanics" of my surgery have all been working and I was back to work in less than two weeks.

Best wishes in your journey!

I did have a complication immediately after surgery.  I was bleeding out and needed a second surgery.  Yes it was a complication, but bleeding is one of the risks of ANY surgery.  My recovery was slightly longer, but I still would have the surgery again in a heartbeat.  My life is THAT much better!

Wow that sounds pretty amazing! I'm glad your quality of life is so much better. Do you mind me asking how much you've lost? And what your goal is?
