How do we do with soups?

Hello friends.

I love making soups/chilis in my crock pot, and I was wondering how we do with soups after RNY during the weight loss period (before maintenance).

Would something like this: Egg Drop Soup (minus cornstarch) be feasible? Or only during pureed foods stage?  Plugging it into MyFitnessPal, it's 89 calories, 6g fat, 2g carbs (1 sugar), 7g protein.

If it is bad, is that because it doesn't stay in our pouch as long since it's liquid and we feel hungry again? Or does it not get absorbed as well?

I appreciate the feedback in advance! :)

when I do soups (which isn't often), I eat the broth first and then the solids

I enjoy egg drop soup quite often and a small amount fills me up.  My recipe calls for a little powdered ginger which I think gives it more taste.  Enjoy!

I love egg drop soup.  And miso soup with tofu.  creamy chicken soup.  and beanless chili.  You have to watch the carbs very carefully.  Even if something has a lot of protein, if it also has a lot of carbs it will trigger continued hunger and can cause overeating.

The problem with soups is that it can slide through our pouch and we will not only lose our full feeling easily, but we might be able to eat more than we should.  So I try to "over do" the protein part of the soup (egg, tofu, meat, chicken) and I have a little of the broth, then eat the firm protein separately.  I do not have anymore broth after that so it does not wa**** out of my pouch.

Stay away from starchy soups.  Just worthless carbs.  Sadly this means most chowders, squash soups, etc.  I miss cream of potato and a good butternut squash soup.  And I would be careful of cream of broccoli.  I add chunks of chicken and cheese to mine to give me more protein and strain a lot of the cream broth off.

I love soups and stews.  But opposite of prior posters, i do mainly the solids first so i can kind of mentally figure out how much protein i consume.  I do often use broth (good homemade stock) with protein chicken soup mix.  Still ends up with a little grainyness of protein powder, but i find the warm soup comforting.  And i don't like always having sweet shakes.

I love the Unjury Chicken Soup Protein powder... but there's so much sodium in it I have to try and stay away from it.

You guys might find this funny, but I decided to do egg drop soup for lunch today instead of leftover chili!  Lo and behold, I get to the "add egg" portion of the recipe and discover my DH hard-boiled all of the eggs in our house!  LOL  I know he was trying to help, but he needs to tell me these things!

It was delicious as just broth (no egg), so I made a recipe for the clear liquids stage and put it on my new blog if anyone is interested.

I am 10 months post op but I remember my first foods when I first came home and I could tolerate Campbell's Tomato Soup and after a while I would add some Feta Cheese and it went down without any problems. I would add some sugar free instant pudding to my protein drinks and it would satisfy my sweet tooth. Just a teaspoon or so pudding really changes the flavor. Hope this helps. I eat a lot of soup. Don't do cream soups though. I am a long time vet though.
