44:09 was the time my son and I ran out 1st ever 5k. Mile 2 was brutal, all uphill at a 14% grade in spots. We weren't last and ran in in what I estimated we could do! My son even complimented me on being a "consistent jogger". I'm so proud of him- he did better than I thought he would!

That is awesome. Congratulations. I would love to get to the point where I can eventually run a 5k. Great example.

Yesterday, we walked a 10 k race. I convinced myself that someone had to take the honor of being last. I convinced myself that being out there, active, having fun was a good enough goal. My brother had RNY a year and some months ago. He has lost about 160 lbs. I had mine Three months ago. Have lost 54 lbs. neither one of us could have done this before. He had terrible back pain, I was out of breath and stationary. His knee started troubling him too much  at 5.1 miles. We cut a loop short. Still a NSV for a celebration. In the past we would have sat and eaten our way through the day. Great trip!  He is 69 and I am 66 years of age. Not too many of us old timers out there! With our short cut, I figured I cam in number 10 for my age group. Happy day after.

That is awesome.  I'm so glad to see that your son ran with you.

This has inspired me.  My oldest is 16, and as of yesterday he weighs 251 lbs. He's lost 8lbs since my surgery,  but I'm thinking I'm going to find a 5k for the spring and ask him to train with me. It can be our thing.
