Hey guys, another thing I wanted to post - There were so many vitamins we were supposed to take after surgery, but my bariatric surgeons office had gotten this new type of product, it's everything into 1 pill, once a day - except for calcium..says it's for bariatric patients who have had gastric bypass only..so I take this pill once a day, and then my calcium 3 times a day......has anyone else ever heard of this? they are called "Bariatric Multivitamin" Once Daily by Live Healthy MD....

Here are the bottles labels for anyone interested - I just thought it was so cool that they rolled everything into 1 lol

I've never heard of them.  How expensive are they,  and how do they taste?

I tried to Google them and couldn't find them.

They taste great! They are 22 dollars for 30 day supply - or 50 dollars for a 90 day supply. Doctor recommends them over taking many different pills. I take one first thing in the morning, then a few hours later take a calcium and then later the other calcium. I will try to get you the website if you would like?

I know nothing about these vitamins but it lists B12 on the label.  We can not absorb B12 orally through pill form because the Intrinsic Factor is greatly decreased in the stomach of RNY patients.  The B12 must be in a sub-lingual, nasal spray, or an injection.

Also the iron is  45mg ferrous fumarate, which is not high in elemental iron. It's harder to absorb for RNY patients and could cause constipation. A carbonyl form of iron is higher in elemental iron, easier to absorb, and won't cause gastric distress.  The vitamin also contains calcium carbonate which will block the absorption of iron even more. Iron and calcium need to be taken at least two hours apart.  We need calcium citrate. We don't have enough stomach acid after surgery to break down calcium carbonate.  Calcium carbonate can also cause us to develop kidney stones.

Thank you for your answer. I wondered by the B12 had to be sub-lingual or injected.

Carpe Diem!

I haven't been told that I have to have B12 injected, I was told to take it by mouth. So I'm not really sure, I'm sure everyone's surgeons and dieticians have different ways of doing things, best thing I can do is follow the instructions given by mine - but I sure will make sure to ask about all of this I'm hearing on this post tonight for sure lol

If it's a pill that you swallow, you won't absorb much of it. If it's a pill that is dissolved under your tongue (sub-lingual), that's fine.

I follow the ASMBS (American Society for Metobolic and Bariatric Surgeries) guidelines for supplementaion.

It's a chewable - sorry, I guess it's my bad, I should have specified. I'm still quite new to this whole thing, I'm trying to learn the ropes :)
