Hello Everyone, I am almost 2.5 mos RNY post op. I am supposed to add vegetables. I am having some problems in adding in vegetables. So I got some V8 juice today.  11 oz has 70 calories and 14 carbs. I know that is a lot of carbs. Do you think it is okay to drink V8 or should I avoid it?  Thanks

Hi there,

My nurse cleared V8 Light for me in my pureed stage, which I'm in right now. Do you know if there is a "Light" version which might decrease the sugars?

I've thought and looked at V8 over the years.  Years ago it was a good product...Then it changed.  It probably is about 95% tomato juice and water...With the rest things like salt and the other 7 vegetables!!  A great concept that went very bad over the years.  You would do well to try and get the color of the rainbow in your vegetables.  Consider frozen vegetable if you are busy...Microwave them.  Things like mixed vegetables, spinach, brussel sprouts.  You may want to get a good quality chicken vegetable soup...Eat is slowly *remember the pouch rules...You don't.  Just my thoughts.  Brian

Avoid. I still eat very few veggies because I rarely have room. You have plenty of time to worry about that once you are further out from surgery. Drinking your veggies defeats the purpose. You are already getting the vitamins you need from your supplements.

Don't drink any calories. Iwas supposed to add vegetables in at 2.5 months also. They're still waiting.

They want you to add vegetables for the fiber, not the nutrients.  If you are taking your supplements, you don't need the nutrients that veggies provide.  V8 has all the calories with none of the fiber that fresh veggies provide.  Never, ever drink your calories.  Drinking calories equals frequent hunger because it goes right through your pouch ( no pyloric valve), and weight gain.  Cooking the veggies until they practically fall apart will help you when you first add them to your diet.
