Measure or Weigh

Before surgery my Center has us weigh our portions.  After surgery we are instructed to measure our portions. In fact, I've been told by one of our nurses that it will be quite some time before I will be able to return to weighing my food.  I miss weighing. It's funny the things that we take for granted.

Meat is definitely one of those things I miss weighing.

I think it depends on the food. I measure liquids, weigh solids. I have to be careful with things like chili that can be done either way.

Not sure how you would 'measure' something like steak, chicken breast etc.

It's time consuming to measure meat, chicken, fish, etc.  I cut it up in itsy bitsy pieces (now my new bite size pieces) then put them in a 1 oz medicine cup, or I have a cute little 2 oz measuring cup.

Wow- that's tedious. And I can't imagine you are yielding much protein from that little bit of a serving. Are you still using shakes too?

Yes, I'm still ingesting protein shakes.  I'm only 8 weeks out (today).  Fluid ounce measurement is what is requred by my Center.  Trust me, I have questioned them on this requirement...no waivering at all on their part.  Humpf!

I have to eat my bites in tic-tac size pieces anyway, so cutting to measure my food saves me time while I'm eating.

At 2 months out, I totally support what you are doing.  I used the metal cup that restrauants serve ****tail sauce in.  I still cut things up so I don;t eat too fast.

Liquids and soft foods -- measure.

Solids - weight.

That is the logical way, I agree, but not for my center.  EVERYTHING, is measured in fluid ounce...and I mean everything!
