10-day Post Op Appointment and Hummus...

As I sit here at my work desk typing this, I am slowing consuming a very nice, albeit small, pile of basil pesto hummus from Zoe's Kitchen...

I think I may be in Heaven

This morning I had my Post Op check up. They said all looks good and they released me for pureed/soft/mushy foods!!!!!!!

So, being a good student, I waited until lunch time and I went to the local Zoe's Kitchen and picked up my order of hummus (minus the bread or cucumbers, I figured just a spoon was good for now). I am diligently working at s-l-o-w-l-y eating my yummy deliciousness sitting in front of me. I have a desire to stand up and shout down the hallways that I AM EATING HUMMUS FOLKS!!!!! But, alas, I'm afraid I'm probably the only one excited about this.

I don't really know where to start my weight loss number, because obviously if I count from my heaviest it's one number... but if I count from just prior to surgery, then it's another number. I do find it curiously interesting that the number keeps going down every.single.morning. I know that will change, but for now, I just grin and take it :) From my heaviest weight I am down 19 pounds... from my pre surgery weight I am down 12 lbs.

I am still not 100%. I tire easily, and that stitch in my left side is still there. I get whiney at bed time because I can't lie on my side very well, and that makes it hard to get comfortable. I have dealt with head hunger a bit... almost like when you quit smoking and the urge hits you, this head hunger hits hard, but luckily so far it's passed pretty quickly too. I know this will be the biggest bear to conquer. I hope I do well at that.

I guess I also need to wrap my head around these shrinking numbers, because right now, 19 pounds isn't doing anything for me. My clothes all still fit the same, and I don't think my brain has wrapped itself around the fact that these pounds won't be coming back on next week. That it's different this time. I think I'm still beating myself up for the last weight gain after losing the weight... and I don't know if I can truly get happy until I lose that... and that was still 61lbs lighter than I am now. I'm going to need to find a way to celebrate between now and then! LOL

You sound like you are doing great. Enjoy the hummus!

After my surgery I wasn't really able to see myself as looking differently until I was down about 50 pounds.  I think you will find your celebration and joy as you reach a place you really feel different.  It won't take long! Just keep chugging along and then one day it will just sneak up on you. POW! You will see your reflection and it will surprise you.

Congratulations and your hummus sounds delicious!  My first soft food was a scrambled egg, and it was the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth, so totally get your hummus bliss.  I like to add a little sriracha to my hummus for that spicy goodness.

Enjoy the journey.  You are in this for the long haul, and success is measured over a long period of time, and not in weeks or months.  You will lose fast.  You will lose slow.  And you will not lose for weeks at a time.  But you will lose over the long haul if you keep to plan and are honest with yourself about what and how much you are eating and drinking.  Congrats again and keep coming back.  This is an incredible community that can help you tremendously as you lose and in maintenance.

Thanks! You have great advice, and now I only have to figure out how to follow it! LOL

We have chickens... a fresh egg will be on my list soon, but right now they don't sound good. I'm funny with eggs anyway, so I figure I'll put them on the back burner until it sounds good.

Oh, every word of your post brought me right back to that time.  I could've written it myself, only substitute refried beans for humas.  Best friggin' beans I ever had I wanted to tell everyone to get some tonight and they'd be in heaven.  (No one cared.)

For my journey I asked close friends to take pictures of me every single Friday - front, side and back views... until I hit my goal.  I put them in a photo album and today when I look through them I'm amazed.  There were pics where I thought at the time I looked great, but now I see I was only a few baby steps along.  Then there were pics where I thought I was still sooooo fat... but my head caught up later, and now I'm proud of them.  I'll treasure that album forever, and the good friends that were so patient with me and my narcissism.

At some point I realized I wanted so many pics of myself all the time because in the back of my mind I hadn't really learned that this time it was forever.  I was constantly needing to 'capture' the weight loss before I gained it all back again, which I had done a hundred times over the past 30 years.  Now, the only pics I have of me are selfies... I don't need to mug for the camera any more.

You're gonna get there, too.  I'm excited for you!

Oh thank you! LOL isn't it funny how crossing from liquids to puréed makes such a huge impact on the brain??

Thank you. I think I will take more pictures during my journey.

Wrapping my head around the fact that this time I should get all the way to goal. And if I just work at it, I will keep it off forever... It's hard to really absorb that.

Lucky! I don't get cleared for soft/puréed foods until my 2 week post op appt. I'm already looking forward to hummus. ?

Im like you, tire easily, cranky at bedtime, sore left side.  I'm also amazed at the rate pounds are dropping, and my clothes feel the same.  I'm fully expecting a stall to happen so that my body can catch up.

You will get there! Hang in there! Go get the hot and sour soup from the local Chinese place... Strain it... It's so tasty! That really saved me... Much better than the plain broth.

Also, I got sugar free hard candy to suck on. I didn't ask my doctor so you may want to, but I was careful not to chew them, and they have helped too.

Soon you'll be having hummus too!!!
