12 days post op here and just started pureed food yesterday. How come sometimes I am totally interested in food and other times I don't care at all? I'm sure some of it is head hunger, but what exactly is head hunger? And isn't it just normal to be more hungry sometimes than others?

Some days I can barely eat a thing. Other days I have to take myself out of the house before I eat too much! Lol!

My hunger varies day to day too.  I think for me boredom plays a big role.  When I'm busy...I don't even think about it!  When im bored or stressed, I find myself looking in cupboards and the fridge.....and have to tell myself NO!!!  LEAVE THE KITCHEN!!!!

Pre-period hunger is still alive and well for me too.

In general, I noticed quite an increase after the 8mths mark.

I still have occasional head hunger and its tough to get through sometimes, its my mind telling me "hey that sounds yummy" or "wow that food smelled delicious don't ya want some" or I am just plain bored and the thought pops into my head.  I've turned to iced coffee with sugar free cream at Royal Farms, yes the caffeine is terrible however I do fill the cup to the top with ice then put the cream and coffee in it, truly makes me feel like I'm having a treat and thus far, hasn't had any affect on my weight loss.  In the beginning where your at now, I couldn't wait to get from phase to phase but honestly it never really tasted as good as I thought it would once I got there, my taste buds have probably changed at least 3 times since surgery, what used to taste good became too sweet and now taste good again.  Its a combination of "detox" and "excitement" in the beginning (right after surgery) and your body is reeling saying "what have you done to me" but over time this head hunger will fade and be more manageable though it will creep up from time to time.

head hunger is when you get fixated on one food that you want and nothing else will do.

Real hunger is when you will eat on plan and be happy with it.

I like this! Yesterday I had this whole body hunger, where it was clear that my body was asking for food. Other times I'm not hungry but something looks or smells delicious and I WANT it.
