7 mos post op and starting to gain weight? Maintenance Plan & Advice?

Well I Guess this is my wake up call?   Yesterday I weighed 182.2 and today I weigh 187.2. I am 7 mos post op RNY.  Now that I am 7 mos post op my Hunger has really returned. I have found myself grazing all day on grapes, strawberries and at night eating a couple oz of almonds.  I am not sure how I gained 5 lbs over night? Today I am going to track my food, stop grazing, and return to healthy eating habits and stick with protein. I know that grapes strawberries and fruit are full of sugar. I have noticed also that consumption of water has not been that great over the last few days.  Unfortunately at night I am hungry and grazing from 8:00pm until I go to sleep. I know that I am in the Maintenance stage I guess? This rapid weight gain really concerns me though.  I continue to exercise and went to the gym yesterday for an hour and was on the elliptical and stairmaster. On Weds I jogged 5.5 miles 

I really like this forum and would be glad to hear your advice and recommendations?  Has anyone else started to regain weight at 7 mos?  (I am going to cross-post this in the mens forum.)

You can't physically gain 5lbs overnight, it has to be water weight.  You say you haven't been good with drinking, so your body is just probably holding on to the water.  I fluctuate up and down a couple of pounds every month while I'm still losing.  For me I think it's just dependent on my water intake and hormones.

I'm a few months ahead of you and still actively losing weight, but I am about 25lbs from my goal weight.

If you want to actively lose more weight then I would highly recommend dumping the fruit and getting back to basics.  I know that my weight loss slowed down a bit at about the 6 month mark, but I continued to lose.  Drink your water and I bet you any money that you'll be down those 5lbs by this time next week.

You know how you don't lose for a while and then one day 5 lbs have gone?  That happens with weight gain as well!  I could easily gain 5 lbs in a day if I gorged for a few.

I second what Deana wrote. I have been slowinf- coming up on my 6 month on june 15- Drop your fruits and empty sugars, increase your liquids. And start tracking if you haven't been.

You didn't gain 5 pounds overnight. But if you keep eating the way you have been, you'll wake up several months down the line and be up 50, and that will be real. Rein it in now.

The best advice I can give is weigh and track every bite you eat for a while. You can see exactly what you are doing, and it will help you stick to a plan.

At seven months out you are still malabsorbng your food.  You are nowhere near maintenance.  True maintenance starts in year three.  For now you need to stay on your plan and continue to lose weight.  You will lose slowly but keep losing until about 18 months out.  If you go below your goal you will have a cushion for the Bounceback regain that happens when the malabsorption goes away.

My surgeon recommends going 10, 20 or even 30 pounds under the goal weight that you want to maintain for life.  You will look too skinny and people that know you will tell you that you are losing too much weight.

Regain when it happens can be fast and furious.  You will be glad you have followed your plan and established healthy habits that can sustain you for life.

I will be nine years out in October and am at my goal weight.  During the honeymoon period I was lighter and skinner but quickly regained by 30 months out.
